Job description
CustodianTo provide the staff and students with a safe, attractive, clean and efficient place to operate the programs of the school district.Essential DutiesClean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and/or vacuuming floors.Clean classroom furniture and fixtures.Gather and empty trash.Dust furniture, walls, machines and/or equipment.Strip, scrub and wax floors.Wash windows, walls and ceilings.Clean and supply restrooms.Move furniture within the building to include desks, tables, chairs, bookcases, boxes and filing cabinets.Load, unload and deliver supplies.Additional ResponsibilitiesWork cooperatively with others.Occasional changing of ceiling tiles and light bulbs.Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsEducation: High school graduate or equivalent.Certification/Licensure: Must have and maintain a valid drivers' license.Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesMust be able to understand and follow directions both written and verbal.Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.Applicant subject to a pre-work screening test.Must be able to work all shifts and overtime when needed.Working ConditionsClimate controlled classrooms. Warmer temperatures in other areas.Physical DemandsMust be in good physical condition and able to work at varying heights, i.e. from a stepladder, scaffold, etc.Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds up and down stairways and length of hallways. Example: one box of clay is 50 pounds.Will be required to efficiently operate equipment such as floor scrubbing machines, wet and/or dry vacuums, automatic floor scrubbers, snow blowers, etc.Requires climbing ladders, pushing and/or pulling.Requires considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting and lifting of classroom furniture.Frequent bending and twisting at neck and trunk.Must be mobile and able to perform a variety of manual tasks involving repetition.Ability to reach above the head and forward 0 to 24 inches and on occasion up to 36 inches.Must be able to tolerate exposure to chemicals used in general cleaning applications.Other InformationDemonstrates concern for and sensitivity to the needs of all regardless of their age, color, creed, national origin, race, religion, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, physical attributes, physical or mental ability or disability, ancestry, political party preference, political belief, socioeconomic status, or familial status.Works courteously and cooperatively with other staff members regardless of their age, color, creed, national origin, race, religion, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, physical attributes, physical or mental ability or disability, ancestry, political party preference, political belief, socioeconomic status, or familial status.Effectively implements the goals and objectives of the district's multi-cultural, non-sexist educational plan in his/her area.Performs such other duties as are assigned by authorized representatives of the Board of Education.
