Job description
Access Clerk | Patient Registration SpecialistJoin a dedicated healthcare team as a Patient Registration Specialist, responsible for admitting, pre-admitting, updating status changes, and transferring patients within a busy emergency department setting. This role emphasizes exceptional customer service and maintaining respectful relationships with patients and staff alike.Essential FunctionsCollect all necessary demographic data, verify insurance eligibility, and obtain required signatures to admit or pre-admit patients while adhering to all applicable State and Federal regulations, maintaining a high accuracy rate.Notify Financial Counselors regarding private pay or patients with uncertain insurance coverage.Distribute admission paperwork promptly to relevant departments and personnel.Assist with patient transport as needed, serving a diverse patient population from newborns to geriatrics.Comply with privacy and security regulations concerning Protected Health Information (PHI) under HIPAA guidelines.Collect co-pays, coinsurance, and deductible payments according to insurance contracts and eligibility programs.Process patient payments and complete daily deposit reconciliations.Minimum Knowledge and SkillsBasic clerical, computer, and keyboarding skills.Effective communication abilities.Preferred Knowledge and SkillsFamiliarity with medical terminology is advantageous.Previous clerical and computer experience preferred.Required Behavioral SkillsIntegrity: Demonstrates honesty and a commitment to ethical behavior.Compassion: Exhibits empathy and excellent customer service, managing conflicts thoughtfully and maintaining positive interactions.Accountability: Takes ownership of tasks and adapts flexibly to changing priorities.Respect: Collaborates effectively with diverse populations, fostering a positive service environment.Excellence: Strong communication and leadership skills, capable of guiding teams and facilitating process improvements.Education and ExperienceNo formal education required; however, knowledge of medical terminology and prior clerical experience are preferred.This position offers competitive pay and benefits within a supportive healthcare environment serving a broad regional community in the Midwest United States.
