nAccountant 1

nThe University of Miami/UHealth Department of Facilities has an exciting opportunity for an Accountant 1 to work in a full-time, hybrid role based at the UHealth Medical Campus in Miami, Florida.

nThe Accountant 1 oversees the assigned department’s internal accounting and reporting functions and assists management with all fiscal functions, including budget formulation and monitoring of accounts, to ensure compliance with University policies and warrant availability of department funds at all times.

nCore Responsibilities:

nnnPrepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.

n

nnAnalyzes trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.

n

nnReports assigned department's finances to management and offers suggestions about resource utilization, tax strategies, and assumptions underlying budget forecasts.

n

nnVerifies the accuracy of journal vouchers and accounting classifications assigned to various records.

n

nnExamines and reconciles expenditure and revenue accounts.

n

nnReviews and approves all reimbursements, check requisitions, and purchase orders.

n

nnAssists with fiscal year end process including entries for the necessary accruals.

n

nnDevelops, analyzes, audits, reconciles, and monitors fiscal reports based upon current and historical financial revenues and expenditures.

n

nnParticipates in planning long or short-term business objectives.

n

nnAdheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

n

n nDepartment Specific Functions

nnnMonitors, reconciles, and assists with fiscal administration for the department, including but not limited to budgets, funding, contracts, and purchasing.

n

nnResponsible for processing departmental invoices for payment.

n

nnResponsible for obtaining approval from Facilities Managers on all invoices prior to sending to Accounts Payable.

n

nnEnsuring that all purchase orders are valid and accurate with sufficient funds prior to sending invoices to Accounts Payable.

n

nnWork closely with outside vendors, contractors, and suppliers to ensure the department is current with all invoices/bills.

n

nnCreate requests for purchase orders, change orders, and close out unnecessary open purchase orders as needed, through the University’s ERP system (“Workday”).

n

nnResponsible for performing the charge-outs/cost recoveries.

n

nnPrepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards and identify trends and explanations for material variances.

n

nnDevelop, maintain, and analyze budgets; prepare periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.

n

nnIdentify process improvement opportunities and assist with implementation efforts for departmental projects and initiatives.

n

nnInteract with auditors in support of the audit process; provide documentation needed to auditors and answer follow up questions.

n

nnReports to management regarding the financial standing of the department.

n

nnPrepare reports and variance analysis as needed.

n

nnReview, investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.

n

nnRecord journal entries on an as needed basis.

n

nnAssist in reporting year-end accruals.

n

nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

nnnBachelor’s degree in relevant field required

n

nnMinimum 1 year of relevant experience required

n

nnLearning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.

nnTeamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.

n

nnTechnical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

nnStrong accounting skills

n

nnAbility to work in a complex environment with the skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve stated goals.

nnAbility to work as a team or independently.

nnExcellent oral and written communication skills.

n

nnExcellent Excel skills required.
