n*Purpose of this position:*Under minimal supervision, the Staff Accountant is primarily concerned with the accounting functions for the health care system.
nRESPONSIBILITIES
nnnPrepares, reconciles, and analyzes routine and complex financial statements and reports
n
nnPrepares journal entries, difficult and complex accounting entries, transactions and reconciliations
n
nnPerforms routine work in verifying compliance to procedures, effectiveness of management controls, and the accuracy of accounting and other financial information
n
nnConducts less complex surveys, analyses and system and procedural studies, and recommends changes in procedures and methods
n
nnPrepares written documentation of work activities, such as routine work papers and audit reports, and procedures
n
nnParticipates in the installation of new systems and procedures
n
nnMay prepare analysis of various ledger accounts
n
nnMay review expenditures and accounting procedures of contractual vendors and compare vendor budgets with purchase of service contracts for compliance to contract stipulations
n
nnAssists higher level auditors/accountants in the examination and analysis of accounting methods and procedures
n
nnMay provide assistance, work direction, training or supervision to employees engaged in paraprofessional or clerical accounting activities
n
nnMay perform special projects and provide assistance to other Units, Departments, etc. on audit or accounting related matters
n
nnPrepares journal entries to be posted to general ledger
n
nnPrepares reconciliation of assigned trial balance accounts
n
nnAnalyzes financial statements and detailed expense reports, explains variances to trend, and prepares month–end narratives
n
nnAssists Senior Accountant in the preparation of monthly financial statements and other financial reports
n
nnAssists in the preparation of the annual year–end audit
n
nnAssists in compiling, formulating and reviewing fiscal budgets
n
nnAll work is self–reviewed for reasonableness and with a complete understanding before being presented as evidenced by analysis and ability to explain your work
n
nnMaintains record retention and filing system
n
nnOther duties as assigned
n
nnGrant Accounting Functions
no Prepares, reconciles and analyzes routine and complex financial activities for grants o Reviews and administers financial terms and conditions of grants including funder agency reporting, time and effort requirements, budgets, billing, and grant closing procedures o Assists higher-level auditors/accountants in the examination and analysis of grant accounting methods and procedures o Assists in the preparation of the grant financial reconciliations and any grant audits o Assists in compiling, formulating and reviewing grant budgets

n nQUALIFICATIONS
nMinimum Qualifications:
nnGraduation from an accredited college with a major in accounting, business administration with emphasis in accounting, or other specialty area related to the duties of the position

nnAn approved equivalent combination of education and experience
n nPreferred Qualifications:
nnBachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred
nOne to three (1-3) years of general ledger experience in an automated environment preferred
n nKnowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
nnDemonstrates an in-depth knowledge of financial reporting system
nDemonstrates initiative and follow through
nMust have strong spreadsheet skills (i.e., Excel)
