Accounting ClerkWe are an equal employment opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law.Position Characteristics: Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer maintains records of financial transactions by establishing accounts, analyzing transactions and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.Duties and Responsibilities:Maintains special logs or records and balances and reconciles internal accounts or records including specific reconciliations, including but not limited to the SAMS Club card, Fuelman and agency credit cards (VISA)Reconciliation of agency credit cards, health insurance and various general ledger accountsPrepares a variety of straightforward special and recurring accounting-related reports, summaries, statistical reports and reconciliationsPrepares appropriate schedules and reports as requested by CFO, CEO and designated Executive ManagementMaintains historical financial records by filing documents appropriatelyMaintains the postage system and prepares postage for mailing and distribution for delivery, if necessaryDeposits accounts receivables into the agency's bank accountsAssists with the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports as required by grantor agenciesContributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as neededAssists with filing invoices in the accounting officePerforms any other duties deemed necessaryKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of and orientation to the philosophy of EBRCOA as presented in Mission/Philosophy statement.Knowledge of accounting principles and budgeting practices.Knowledge of computerized accounting and Excel/Spreadsheet accounting.Knowledge of QuickBooks.Knowledge of and/or ability to learn rules and regulations of financial responsibilities set forth by federal/state funding agencies.Skill in maintaining and reconciling accounting and financial records.Ability to communicate and interact both verbally and written.Basic mathematics and counting is required.Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to act professionally and remain calm in high stress situations.Other Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent required.Associates degree or a technical degree or two or more years related accounting experience. (preferred)Bachelor's degree in Accounting/ Business Administration or some higher education experience (preferred)2 years experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)Valid Driver's License required.Full-Time/Part-Time - Full-TimeSince 1973, the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging (EBRCOA) has served the aging population of East Baton Rouge Parish through a spectrum of nutritional and social services. Additionally, the EBRCOA is charged with both meeting and discovering the growing needs of the ever-increasing aging population.Central to the EBRCOA's mission is service to seniors as well as the maintenance of their personal independence and the enhancement of their storied lives. As such, our mission is simple: Supporting Independence - Serving Seniors.Said mission is made real through a variety of community-wide programs such as:Meals on Wheels (home-delivered meals to homebound seniors)Congregate Meals (hot meals at 15 different sites/senior centers throughout the parish)Information and Assistance (trained counselors are available to answer questions, provide a thorough assessment of needs, make appropriate recommendations of services, refer individuals to other EBRCOA-related services in addition to other community-wide agencies/services available to the aging population)Personal Care/Homemakers (trained caregivers providing in-home care; house-cleaning; laundry, respite, etc.)Family Caregiver Support (assistance for caregivers tending to individuals 60+)Health Screens (comprehensive screens at each senior center: glucose, immunizations, nutrition, referrals, etc.)Insurance counseling; utility assistance (cable, electricity); Medicaid applications.Today, our parish proudly welcomes more than 85,000 seniors to East Baton Rouge (eagerly anticipating the opportunity of reaching out and positively affecting each and every seasoned citizen).
