Job description

Job Title: AdjunctInstructor, Phlebotomy

Location: 3400Tulane Avenue, Suite 2100, New Orleans, LA 70119

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This position will instruct in-person Phlebotomycourses within the Medical Assistant program and perform duties associated withinstruction of students in the Medical Assistant program. The Phlebotomyinstructor will prepare and present specific course content with summaryassessment of students' academic performance; develop, administer, and grade exams;hold office hours in the amount of thirty (30) minutes per course on campus attimes convenient for students; maintain class records and report grades;participate in class evaluations and an end of semester evaluation session; andcomplete all required/mandated employee training/professional development.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education

1. Bachelor'sdegree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the USDepartment of Education and evidence of appropriate familiarity with thesubject matter taught as evidenced by academic transcript and/or occupationalexperience.

2. Ifno Bachelor's degree: 1) a high school diploma or its equivalent with alicense, diploma, certificate or other degree from a recognized institution ororganization in the area taught; and 2) a minimum of four (4) years ofdocumented evidence of occupational experience in the area taught. Documentedevidence of occupational experience in the area taught may be in the form ofletters from former employer(s) verifying work experience in the area taught ora notarized statement attesting to work experience in the area taught. A resumesubmitted by the applicant does not fulfill these requirements unless it isnotarized.

Minimum Qualifications

§ ValidCertified Phlebotomy Technician certification or license

§ Mustbe proficient in operating a computer and experienced in Microsoft Office Word,Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

§ Atleast one year of experience teaching in a higher education setting.

JOB DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performduties associated with instruction of students in the Medical Assisting Programand assess their progress in relation to identified program and studentlearning outcomes.

2. Attendclass as scheduled and on time. Begin lessons promptly and teach for the fullduration of the course. Maintain performance standards, academic rigor, andintegrity within courses taught.

3. Pursuegoals, objectives, and activities that promote and support the mission of thecollege. Represent the college in manner, appearance, and behavior thatpromotes a positive image of the college.

4. Adhereto all policies, procedures, and processes of Goodwill Technical College andGoodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana, Inc.

5. Makeappropriate arrangements for necessary absences according to college policy.

6. Prepareahead of time to provide lectures, lead discussions, perform demonstrations,and/or use technology which facilitates learning. Present course content in aprofessional manner and in a way that supports various learning styles tomaximize student learning of the objectives being taught.

7. Createan engaging, motivating, and healthy classroom environment that is conducive tolearning and in which all students are treated equitably and with respect.

8. Participatein departmental duties including, but not limited to advisory committeemeetings, faculty/staff meetings, curriculum/syllabus development, selection ofappropriate instructional materials, revision of testing materials,accreditation process, and others as assigned.

9. Participatein assessment activities necessary for program evaluation of student learningoutcomes for program review and to maintain accrediting standards.

10. Participate in the assessment ofnon-traditional credit through developing, administering or grading creditexaminations.

11. Maintain and record accurate studentattendance and progress. Prepare monthly academic progress reports whenrequired by a student's funding source. Submit Midterm Academic Reports,midterm grades, and final grades on time. Adhere to Instructor Exit form forend of semester requirements.

12. Adhere to all timelines established bythe college. Check emails daily and respond within 24 hours (Monday - Friday).Respond to records inquiries and other communications about students in atimely manner.

13. Hold thirty (30) minutes of office hoursper course on campus.

14. Maximize the use of learning andtechnological resources. Incorporate the opportunity for students to developand expand written and oral communication skills in each course.

15. Participate in training and professionaldevelopment mandated by the college.

16. Communicate effectively with students,colleagues, and supervisors and use appropriate channels of communication withall members of the Goodwill Technical College and Goodwill Industries ofSoutheastern Louisiana, Inc. community.

PHYSICAL/MENTALDEMANDS:

Required to sit or stand(possibly for long periods of time), walk, use hands to handle or feel objects,tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop,kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; able to lift 25 pounds.
