Student Advisor
Status: Adjunct Schedule: Up to 5.00 Hours/Day (8:00 am-1:00 pm, some evenings) Monday-Friday up to 259 Days/Year Location: Lancaster and Lebanon Counties Minimum Salary: $21.71
The purpose of this position is to orient new students and provide ongoing support and instruction to adult learners in Lancaster and Lebanon counties.
All job functions are to be executed through the lens of high quality customer service. Customers are defined as both internal and external clients. Examples demonstrative of high quality service may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Prompt responsiveness to inquiries
Professional and courteous verbal and nonverbal communication
Proactive problem solving
1. Orient new students, involving them in the process, place them in the program activities, and provide ongoing support to address their needs and overcome obstacles to success.
2. Administer assessments of learner's career interests, skills, and experiences and select materials and activities that will provide the learner with appropriate content including problem-solving skills and navigation skills to locate resources for employment, post-secondary education or training.
3. Identify and connect the student to the components of a transition area (employment, post-secondary education or training) which are essential to the adult learner's success.
4. Design an individual career plan based on assessments, student's skills and abilities, and places learners at their proper instructional level.
5. Utilize computer instruction, both programmed and self-directed, for accelerated learning and exploration of career and post-secondary opportunities.
6. Teach Community Education classes as needed and keep accurate and up-to-date student records and data.
7. Use the community in the learning process and plan instructional transition activities which bring the resources of the community to bear on the needs of the learners.
8. Maintains required student records and data, follows program procedures and adheres to deadlines.
9. Assist qualified students with registering for distance learning and maintain communication with student and Distance Learning Coordinator.
10. Contribute to the effective team management of all problems, issues, and opportunities.
11. Adheres to the established work schedule through regular and consistent attendance.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
13. Follows all federal, state and local laws/ requirements pertaining to privacy practices, including but not limited to, FERPA and HIPAA. In addition, knows, observes and adheres to all LLIU policies and procedures.
Bachelor's degree required; a background in education, social work or related field preferred. Must have strong organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
