This role involves working closely with licensed nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers to deliver compassionate and organized support in a fast-paced clinical environment.General SummaryThe Medical Assistant operates within their scope to provide patient care as delegated by clinical staff. Key attributes include strong organizational skills, professionalism, excellent customer service, attention to detail, multitasking ability, critical thinking, and adaptability.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAdhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling.Engage directly with patients by escorting them, obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, verifying medications and allergies, and documenting medical histories and visit reasons accurately and promptly.Manage communication by routing phone messages, addressing patient inquiries, and assisting with physician return calls.Support medication management including renewals, authorizations, and administration of oral, IM, and SQ medications as ordered.Conduct point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.Schedule appointments, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries as directed by providers.Complete necessary paperwork, prior authorizations, referrals, and documentation efficiently.Maintain supply inventory, clean and stock exam rooms, and assist patients with electronic health record enrollment and education.Assist in orienting and training new medical assistants.Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.EducationCompletion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is mandatory.ExperienceAt least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or related medical specialist is preferred but not required. Experience in a medical clinic setting is advantageous.Certification and LicensesRegistered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) is preferred.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.Mental and Physical RequirementsThis role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.Working ConditionsFrequent exposure to infectious diseases and occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur. Exposure to communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is common. Physical discomfort is minimal.
