Job description

Bring your clinical judgment to the front line of complex, time-sensitive care with UVA Health's Interventional Radiology team. This is an opportunity to play a central role in evaluating, coordinating, and preparing patients for urgent and emergent image-guided interventions within a nationally respected academic health system.

As an Advanced Practice Provider in Interventional Radiology, you will focus less on performing procedures and more on consultation, triage, patient assessment, and multidisciplinary care coordination . You will work across inpatient and ambulatory settings, caring for patients from newborns through older adulthood while partnering closely with IR attendings, APPs, residents, fellows, and specialty teams.

The Role

Your day will center on managing the IR consult service and helping determine the safest, most appropriate pathway for patients whose conditions may require rapid intervention. You will combine advanced assessment skills, pattern recognition, and clear communication to move patients efficiently from consultation through procedural readiness.

In this role, you will:

Manage and respond to Interventional Radiology consults across a broad range of acuity and clinical specialties.

Participate in the triage of urgent and emergent cases , including pulmonary embolism, ischemic limb emergencies, thrombolysis and lysis activations, and other time-sensitive IR consultations.

Evaluate patients, review pertinent clinical information, and complete workups for emergent procedures.

Carry and manage consult pager responsibilities while coordinating competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Prepare patients for interventions performed with advanced guidance technologies, including CT, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and intravascular ultrasound .

Perform IR procedures as clinically indicated and scheduled, secondary to primary responsibilities

Collaborate with physicians, APP colleagues, residents, fellows, nursing teams, and referring services to support coordinated, patient-centered care.

Care for a clinically diverse population spanning newborn, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients .

Contribute ideas and clinical perspective as the APP service expands and develops future offerings.

This opportunity is especially well suited for an NP or PA with experience in surgical, procedural, emergency medicine, internal medicine, critical care, ICU, or other acute care environments. Direct IR experience can be valuable, but strong foundational clinical skills, adaptability, and comfort managing complex consultations are equally important.

You will join a supportive APP team with a robust onboarding experience, regular access to attending physicians, ongoing mentorship, and structured development conversations. As your expertise grows, you will progress toward independently managing consult workflows, patient evaluations, and pager responsibilities while remaining connected to an experienced multidisciplinary team.
