Job description
Become Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for a child in Foster Care. You can help as the voice of a child that is under Court jurisdiction due to experiencing abuse or neglect. You will become a trained advocate. You will not be asked to be a caregiver. You verify that the child is receiving services and attention, as outlined in a plan, and report to the Court.
Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. Too many spend years moving from one temporary home to another. They have no family to call their own. They are more likely than other children to face homelessness, unemployment, even prison as adults.
CASA was created to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child is placed into a safe, loving home where he/she can thrive. YOU can be a CASA.
We are currently accepting applications. We hold trainings at least every 6 months, but we would love to talk with you about the role and provide a bit of orientation first. We anticipate holding a pre-service mandatory training series for new volunteers in the coming months. You can make an incredible difference in the life of a child.
