Job description

Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid, 4 days/week)

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Company Overview

Our client is investing heavily in building next-generation AI capabilities and has established a dedicated AI Engineering team focused on delivering high-impact enterprise solutions. The team is responsible for developing intelligent applications, AI-powered workflows, and agent-based systems that improve business operations and user experiences. With multiple strategic AI initiatives already underway, this is an opportunity to join a team where AI is a core business priority rather than an experimental side project.

Role Overview

We're seeking an Agentic AI Software Engineer who combines a strong software engineering foundation with hands‑on experience building production-grade AI agents and agentic workflows.

This is not a role for someone who has simply integrated ChatGPT into an application or relied on AI coding assistants. We're looking for someone who has spent the last several years designing, building, and deploying intelligent agents that can reason, retrieve information, utilize tools, interact with enterprise systems, and execute complex workflows autonomously.

You will serve as one of the primary builders on a growing AI Engineering team, helping to develop AI products and initiatives ranging from intelligent support agents to enterprise-scale AI automation solutions.

Why This Role?

Join a newly established and highly visible AI Engineering organization.

Own the design and development of production AI agents from concept through deployment.

Work on enterprise AI initiatives with significant business impact.

Collaborate directly with AI, Data Science, Product, and Executive Leadership teams.

Influence the architecture, tooling, and future direction of AI development across the organization.

Help shape how enterprise users interact with next-generation AI systems.

What You'll Do

Agentic AI & AI Agent Development

Design, build, and deploy AI agents capable of reasoning through complex workflows.

Develop support agents that understand intent, retrieve relevant information, and take action on behalf of users.

Build agentic workflows combining LLMs, APIs, business logic, retrieval systems, and external tools.

Implement memory, context management, and personalization frameworks.

Develop evaluation, monitoring, guardrail, and human-in-the-loop systems.

Optimize agent performance, reliability, accuracy, latency, and cost.

Must-Have Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

8+ years of software engineering experience building production applications.

Strong full stack engineering experience across frontend and backend development.

3+ years of hands‑on experience building AI agents, agentic workflows, or LLM-powered applications.

Strong experience with LLMs, RAG architectures, tool calling, and agent orchestration.

Experience building AI systems that interact with APIs, databases, and enterprise platforms.

Strong backend development experience with Python.

Experience building REST APIs and distributed application architectures.

Experience with React, Angular, Next.js, or comparable frontend frameworks.

Strong understanding of AI agent evaluation, monitoring, memory, and context systems.

Experience taking AI products from development into production environments.

U.S. work authorization without sponsorship.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

Experience with Databricks and Lakehouse architectures.

Experience with LangGraph, LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, or similar agent frameworks.

Experience deploying applications in GCP or other cloud-native environments.

Experience with vector databases and semantic search platforms.

Knowledge of MLOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, and modern DevOps practices.

Experience with enterprise AI governance, guardrails, and model evaluation frameworks.

Experience actively leveraging AI development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Augment Code.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Started their career as a Full Stack Software Engineer and transitioned into AI Engineering.

Has built production AI agents rather than simply integrating AI APIs.

Thinks beyond chatbots and understands autonomous workflows, tool usage, memory, and reasoning systems.

Demonstrates strong product thinking and user-centric design.

Comfortable operating in fast-paced, highly collaborative environments.

Excited about shaping the future of enterprise AI applications.
