Job description

Shift Supervisor For Flight Line Maintenance Activities

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as shift supervisor for all flight line maintenance activities, enforcing schedules, and directing work priorities over various skilled mechanics. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position.

DUTIES:

DUTY 1: Performs work planning responsibilities. The expediter is responsible for the quality, quantity, and timeliness of work performance, and therefore, must plan and prioritize availability of all resources, to include personnel, equipment, materials, tools, facilities, and aircraft. Based on flying schedules and availability of essential resources, the incumbent will have direct authority delegated by senior management personnel to realign priorities of all work that is planned or in progress in order to match flying schedules with preplanned aircraft tail numbers. Coordinates work priorities with support functions such as plans and scheduling, maintenance operations center (MOC), and munitions control. Effectively advises flight operations through the MOC of changes in operational status of aircraft appearing on the daily flying schedule. Monitors the work progress of personnel dispatched to assigned aircraft, and tracks time of job starts and completions. Directs movement of resources to meet schedule demands. Coordinates necessary changes to established formal schedules with all agencies affected by the changes.

DUTY 2: Performs work direction responsibilities. Assigns work to individuals and provides technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes. Observes work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems, reassign personnel within group supervised, and coordinates work among workers and other supervisors to maintain work progress to meet schedules. Inspects completed work for quality and work order requirements. Reports possible or actual work delays to superiors.

DUTY 3: Performs administration responsibilities. Advises employees of performance expectations and explains new work techniques, as required. Provides proper guidance and direction, continuous feedback on strengths and weaknesses. Holds employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments and recommends performance ratings in accordance with regulations. Recommends appropriate recognition and corrective action, as needed, in performance management. Recommends the most suitable applicants for vacant positions. Explains classification determinations to subordinate employees. Recommends restructuring positions when necessary to achieve the most effective and economical utilization of personnel. Investigates grievances and complaints, resolving them informally where possible, and notifies supervisors of those of sufficient importance or seriousness. Recommends training based on needs assessment and mission requirements. Maintains work reports and records relating to section, e.g., progress, production, cost, personnel, equipment, materials, and time and attendance. Assists supervisors in planning overall leave schedule.

DUTY 4: Applies Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)/Equal Opportunity Treatment (EOT) principles and requirements to all personnel management actions and decisions, and ensures all personnel are treated in a manner free of discrimination. Takes positive action to implement affirmative action/EEO initiatives identified in the installation Affirmative Employment Plan. Takes action to prevent or correct situations that may give rise to complaints of discrimination and/or sexual harassment. Cooperates fully with counselors, investigators, and examiners.

DUTY 5: Ensures education in, compliance with, and practice of security directives, good safety, and health habits in all work areas. Ensures employees with access to classified information comply with security directives. All known security violations are reported to the proper authority immediately when discovered. Submits reports in accordance with reporting directives. Ensures safety equipment and protective clothing/gear are worn when mandated by regulations. Any condition which might pose a hazard to safety or health is reported to the appropriate authority as soon as possible after detection. Reserve Training: Administers the reserve training and associated programs for the shift ensuring consistent standards throughout the section for traditional reservists and ARTs.
