Job Description
Anesthesia Technologist
Hours
1:30 PM - 10:30 PM
Holidays, weekends, on-call, and callback as needed
1 year contract only
Specific Responsibilities Patient Care Assistance (20%)
Assist in the care of patients undergoing anesthesia by preparing anesthesia equipment prior to patient arrival.
Place anesthesia monitors and ensure the cleanliness of anesthesia equipment.
Ensure the availability of specialized anesthesia equipment and supplies.
Set up medications and supplies as applicable.
Communicate continuously with anesthesiologists, residents, CRNAs, and anesthesia technologists to meet their needs throughout the day.
Assist clinicians with difficult intubations and placement of central line catheters.
Equipment Operation (20%)
Operate the cell-saver machine and keep track of lab reports, participating in advanced surgical cases including cardiac, liver transplant, vascular, thoracic, and trauma cases.
Work directly with the service-specific faculty Division Chief of designated specialty.
Provide on-call coverage as needed.
Equipment Maintenance (20%)
Provide primary support to ensure anesthesia equipment is in good working order and preventive maintenance is completed.
Set up and operate sophisticated equipment, performing advanced troubleshooting.
Act as the key resource for using and maintaining specialized equipment.
Training and Development (15%)
Assist the Chief Anesthesia Technologist in developing and implementing in-service training programs.
Support the training of staff in the roles and responsibilities of an anesthesia technologist.
Equipment Setup and Troubleshooting (15%)
Perform anesthesia equipment setup and troubleshooting, including testing infusion pumps, nerve stimulators, defibrillators, and transport monitors.
Calibrate anesthesia machines and attach fiberoptic bronchoscopes to video monitors.
Room Setup (5%)
Set up rooms between cases and prepare carts throughout the day, providing full service setup at the end of the day.
Collaborate with other hospital units to ensure availability of specialized anesthesia equipment.
Support ectopic procedures for anesthesia care by ensuring proper equipment is in place for out-of-OR procedures.
Supervisory Support (5%)
Provide backup to the shift supervisor in their absence due to vacation or illness.
Perform other duties as assigned by the shift supervisor, Chief Anesthesia Technologist, or Operations Manager.
Required Qualifications Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Two years of experience as an Anesthesia Technologist.
Preferred Qualifications A four-year college education including related technical training; or a two-year college education with technical training closely related to this position accompanied by two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certification by the registry of the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists or another nationally recognized professional certifying body is preferred.
