Job Summary
The Surgical Technologist plays a critical role in assisting during surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile surgical field and providing necessary instrumentation to the surgical team. This position also involves participating in unit activities to assure high-quality patient care and functioning under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Essential Job Functions Possesses expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, and surgical procedures to assist with invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, adhering to AORN standards.
Maintains and verifies that all surgical items are properly packaged, processed, and sterile before use, ensuring patient safety throughout the operative procedure.
Monitors the sterile field for contamination risks and takes corrective actions when necessary, under supervision.
Works towards competency with Tier 1 surgical cases.
Maintains flexibility and contributes to the individualized, ongoing delivery of care within the designated scope of practice.
Communicates effectively with the perioperative team and participates actively in the Time Out Process, including Briefings and Debriefings.
Assists with patient transport, room turnovers, and preparation of operating rooms.
Stays current with new technologies and procedures, particularly relating to instrumentation and equipment.
Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
Exemplifies the principles of a Just Culture and performs other duties as assigned, ensuring HIPAA compliance.
Minimum Qualifications Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or licensure as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association is required.
Must possess or be able to obtain necessary computer skills to complete job-specific competencies and access online resources within 90 days.
Must have a working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking.
