Position Overview

Medical Director Anesthesiology, BayCare Medical Group

Anesthesiology is an essential foundation of acute care delivery—supporting surgical services, procedural care, critical care, obstetrics, trauma, and perioperative services across BayCareHealth System’s acute care hospitals. As one of the largest and fastest-growing clinical departments within BayCare Medical Group, anesthesiology plays a pivotal role in access, throughput, quality, safety, and the reliability of hospital operations.

This role provides unified physician leadership for anesthesiology across BayCare’s acute care hospitals, ensuring high-quality, safe, and efficient anesthesia services while fostering a culture where anesthesiologists, CRNAs, and Anesthesiologist Assistants can thrive. Success in this role depends on deep partnership with hospital leadership, surgical services, and the Vice President of Perioperative Services for BayCare Health System, a critical enterprise partner in the delivery of high-performing acute and perioperative care.

Through strong physician leadership, disciplined execution, and close collaboration with hospital and perioperative leaders, anesthesiology serves as a critical enabler of system-wide clinical performance.

Role Scope and Accountability

The Medical Director serves as the senior physician leader for BayCare Medical Group Anesthesiology, with responsibility for clinical excellence, professional practice, workforce leadership, and operational performance of anesthesiology services across the majority of BayCare’s acute care hospitals.

This role provides direct physician leadership for employed anesthesiologists, CRNAs, and Anesthesiologist Assistants, supporting anesthesia coverage across operating rooms, procedural suites, labor and delivery, interventional areas, and other hospital-based settings.

The Medical Director operates within a highly integrated, hospital-partnered model, working in close collaboration with Hospital Presidents, Chief Medical Officers, surgical leadership, perioperative services, nursing, and enterprise partners to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient anesthesia coverage that supports BayCare’s acute care mission.

This role is intentionally designed around dyad leadership, with the Medical Director partnering closely with an anesthesia operations leader responsible for staffing, scheduling, operational execution, and financial performance. Together, the dyad shares accountability for quality, access, operational reliability, physician experience, and long-term sustainability.
