nJob Description Summary:
nAs a General & Bariatric Surgical APP, you'll provide comprehensive care to patients throughout their surgical journey, from initial consultation and preoperative evaluation to postoperative recovery and long-term follow-up. Working collaboratively with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams, you'll assess, diagnose, and manage patients undergoing general and bariatric surgical procedures, assist in developing treatment plans, provide patient education, and support care coordination. You'll contribute to optimizing surgical outcomes, enhancing patient experience, promoting healthy lifestyle changes, and helping patients achieve their weight loss and overall health goals through compassionate, evidence-based care.
nJob Description:
nnnConduct comprehensive patient histories, physical examinations, and clinical assessments
n
nnEvaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with general surgical and bariatric conditions.
n
nnDevelop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
n
nnOrder, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic studies, laboratory tests, and imaging results.
n
nnPerform procedures within scope of practice and organizational guidelines.
n
nnProvide preoperative assessments and optimize patients for surgical intervention.
n
nnAssist with postoperative management, including wound evaluation, drain management, pain control, and complication surveillance.
n
nnEducate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, postoperative expectations, lifestyle modifications, weight management, and long-term health maintenance.
n
nnMonitor bariatric surgery patients throughout the continuum of care, including nutritional, metabolic, and weight-loss outcomes.
n
nnCoordinate care with surgeons, dietitians, nursing staff, primary care providers, and other specialists.
n
nnDocument patient encounters accurately and timely within the electronic medical record.
n
nnParticipate in quality improvement initiatives and support evidence-based clinical practice.
n
nnProvide hospital rounding, consults, and call coverage as assigned.
n
n nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
nnnKnowledge of general surgery and bariatric surgery principles and practices.
n
nnStrong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.
n
nnAbility to manage patients across the surgical continuum of care.
n
nnExcellent communication and patient education abilities.
n
nnStrong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
n
nnAbility to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
n
nnCommitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.
n
nnProficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation.
n
n nEducation:
nnMaster's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program (Required).
n nWork Experience:
nn1+ years of related work experience
n nLicenses and Certifications:
nnnCurrent and unrestricted state licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) (Required).
n
nnCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Required).
n
nnAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (Preferred)
n
