nJob Summary
nThe Occupational Medicine Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care focused on the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and management of work-related injuries and illnesses. The NP works in collaboration with physicians, employers, safety personnel, and healthcare providers to promote employee health, ensure regulatory compliance, and support safe return-to-work strategies. Evaluate, diagnose, and treat work-related injuries and illnesses in accordance with occupational health standards and regulatory guidelines.
nConduct pre-employment, periodic, and return-to-work physical examinations.
nPerform functional capacity evaluations (FCEs), drug and alcohol testing, TB screenings, immunizations, and other health surveillance exams.
nCollaborate with employers to support workers' compensation claims and return-to-work planning.
nEducate patients on injury prevention, ergonomics, safe work practices, and chronic disease management.
nMaintain detailed documentation in compliance with OSHA, DOT, and state/federal guidelines.
nCommunicate with case managers, safety officers, and HR departments to coordinate employee care.
nParticipate in wellness and health promotion programs tailored to the workplace.
nAssist in the development of occupational health protocols and policies.
nEnsure timely and appropriate referral to specialty care as needed.
nQualifications
nMaster's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
nIf APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
nExperience in occupational medicine, urgent care, emergency medicine, or internal medicine preferred.
nCurrent licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
nCurrent Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
nState Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
nNational board certification as a Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP-C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP), Adult (ANP-C).
nObtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
nPrivileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.
