Full-Time Apprentice Shop Mechanic
Cobra Concrete Cutting Services is looking for a motivated Apprentice Shop Mechanic to join our growing team in Wheeling, Illinois. Position Summary
As an Apprentice Shop Mechanic, you will work alongside an experienced mechanic to learn the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of company vehicles, trailers, and specialized construction equipment. This position is ideal for individuals with mechanical aptitude who are eager to learn and grow in the construction equipment industry.
Responsibilities
Assist with preventative maintenance on company vehicles, trailers, and equipment
Learn to inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel and gasoline engines
Assist with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical repairs
Perform basic fleet maintenance, including brakes, trailer wiring, batteries, and alternators
Help maintain shop cleanliness, organization, and inventory
Learn welding and fabrication techniques as needed
Follow all company safety policies and procedures
Work with senior mechanic to develop technical skills and industry knowledge
Qualifications
Preferred Skills & Abilities
Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
Basic knowledge of hand and power tools
Interest in vehicle, diesel, or construction equipment repair
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Strong work ethic and commitment to safety
Construction, automotive, vocational school, or mechanical experience is a plus, but not required
Ability to lift and move 50 pounds or more
Ability to work in varying weather conditions when necessary
Requirements
Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and participate in random testing as required
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and periodic screenings
Reliable transportation
Authorized to work in the United States
Willingness to work occasional nights, weekends, or out-of-town assignments when necessary
Basic hand tools preferred
