Tradition-Rich, Future-Focused REDFORD UNION PUBLIC SCHOOLS ART TEACHER – DAY TREATMENT JOB DESCRIPTION: Plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but not be limited to):

Provide Art instruction to students with emotional impairments in grades K-12

Develop an appropriate Art program that exposes students to a variety of mediums, art history, and supports the core curriculum.

Set program goals/objectives to develop a quality High School Art Program and develop student abilities for transition to a College Art program or life-long personal enrichment.

Develop lesson plans that support CCSS and School Improvement Goals.

Establishes a cooperative and supportive relationship with all students.

Maintains a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning. Fosters and maintains positive / collaborative relationships with parents / guardians of students.

Work collaboratively with the Elementary Art Teacher and Middle School Art Teacher to further develop and expand the District's Art curriculum and program.

Demonstrate and maintain "total school and community" awareness in working with students, parents, administration, teaching staff and community members.

Collaborates with school personnel, parents and district Art staff for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.

Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.

Monitor student progress, adjust and provide accommodations to curriculum and instruction to support academic achievement.

Effectively uses multiple forms of assessment and progress data to plan and guide instruction and to inform the learner of their growth.

Completes and maintains student attendance, academic records / gradebook, documentation and record keeping in accordance with District policies and procedures.

Ability to manage student behavior to maximize engagement in learning.

Ability to apply knowledge of PBIS best practices to meet student needs.

Ability to effectively communicate, coordinate and collaborate with Departmental colleagues, ancillary staff, Administration, parents, and building staff.

Function as a collaborative and contributing team member within the school staff.

Work to further develop the Art curriculum and program and seek innovative, engaging and motivating instructional approaches.

Manage equipment / inventory in the Art classroom.

Contributes and participates in efforts related to building and District Goals.

Perform other duties as may be related to the position.

REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsement in emotional impairment (SE) and/or Endorsement in Art Education (LQ, LX or LZ)

Familiar with Best Practice and Procedures for Art Education.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely (oral and written)

Certification in CPI (or willing to get and maintain yearly) and willingness to commit to training in applied behavior analysis

SALARY: Per the Redford Union Education Association.
