You will partner with data science leadership to identify valuable opportunities, develop intelligent tools and deliver reliable solutions that stakeholders can use every day.

This position emphasizes practical application of existing AI technologies, strong engineering judgment and ownership from initial discovery through deployment and support.

Key Responsibilities

Design and deploy AI-powered applications, multi-agent systems, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines and analytical workflows.

Build automation using tools such as LangGraph, LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, n8n and Microsoft Copilot Studio.

Connect AI services to enterprise data and applications through APIs, MCP and controlled tool-use patterns.

Develop Python and SQL solutions, including integrations with Snowflake and other data platforms.

Translate loosely defined requirements into scoped projects, intuitive interfaces, documented implementations and maintainable architecture.

Develop prompts, system instructions and evaluation frameworks that improve output quality and consistency.

Select appropriate models and platforms based on capability, reliability, cost and organizational needs.

Build knowledge bases, embedding pipelines, vector stores and retrieval services for approved organizational information.

Analyze datasets, identify patterns and communicate findings that support leadership decisions.

Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, visualization developers and business stakeholders.

Maintain documentation, testing and knowledge transfer to support sustainable operation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems or a related discipline.

At least five years of professional experience in software development, data engineering or data science.

At least two years of professional, hands-on applied AI or LLM experience.

Demonstrated delivery of production AI applications used by real stakeholders.

Strong Python and SQL skills.

Experience with agent orchestration or workflow frameworks.

Working knowledge of RAG, embeddings and vector databases such as Pinecone, ChromaDB, Weaviate or pgvector.

Experience integrating LLM APIs or platforms, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or open-source alternatives.

Ability to independently analyze data and communicate actionable findings.

Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical decisions to nontechnical audiences.

Ability to own projects from discovery through delivery with limited supervision.

Commitment to evidence-based public health and scientific research.

Ability to attend the San Diego-area office Tuesday through Thursday.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field.

Snowflake experience.

Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Automate or comparable enterprise automation experience.
