Aspiring RN Student Nurse Intern | AMS

General Summary
Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, the Student Nurse Intern performs diverse duties to assist in patient care and treatment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care tailored to age and developmental needs, assisting with daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, and oral hygiene.
Deliver skin care while taking precautions to prevent skin breakdown.
Assist with physical activities including repositioning, ambulation, range of motion exercises, and transfer techniques.
Support nutritional needs by preparing patients for meals, assisting with feeding, monitoring intake, and ensuring dietary restrictions are followed.
Collect specimens, perform vital signs, and document intake and output accurately.
Perform sit baths, postmortem care, and apply therapeutic devices like TED hose, K-pads, ice packs, and binders.
Lead and encourage participation in performance improvement initiatives and teamwork.
Carry out technical procedures and nursing interventions within credentialing scope.
Maintain close communication with primary nurses and notify them promptly of any changes in patient condition or concerns.
Manage oxygen therapy, urinary catheter insertion/removal, intravenous therapy discontinuation, nasopharyngeal suctioning, dressing changes, wound care, and skin management.
Conduct patient assessments and collaborate with primary nurses for care planning.
Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, and manage NG tube insertion and maintenance.
Educate patients and families in conjunction with primary nursing staff.
Document all patient care activities thoroughly and accurately in medical records and designated forms.
Education
Currently enrolled in a nursing program or completed nursing education but not yet licensed.
Experience
Entry-level position; no prior experience required.
Certification/License
Not applicable.
Mental/Physical Requirements
Requires considerable mental focus, frequent heavy lifting, turning, walking, and physical activities such as carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Working Conditions
Exposure to infectious diseases, radiation, anti-neoplastic agents, and occasionally hostile individuals. Frequent contact with communicable diseases through blood and body fluids. Minimal physical discomfort expected.
