Job description

Mechanical AssemblerThis role focuses on assembling custom-engineered electrical switchgears, breaker units, and panels in a modern, climate-controlled manufacturing facility. You will perform mechanical assembly, fabricate metal frames and enclosures, and ensure high-quality, safe, and reliable products by following blueprints, work orders, and quality procedures.ResponsibilitiesAssemble electrical switchgears, breaker units, and panels using mechanical assembly techniques.Fabricate metal frames and enclosures for electrical switchgears using hand tools and power tools.Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, spec sheets, three-line drawings, and work orders to complete assemblies accurately.Execute change orders when required and adjust work to updated specifications.Perform general labor tasks, including moving materials and components by hand throughout the shop.Use tape measures, hand tools, and power tools safely and accurately to build and fit components.Perform quality checks on completed work to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.Conduct basic root cause analysis when quality issues arise and support corrective actions.Apply basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word and other basic software tools, to review documentation and record information.Work safely at heights on ladders less than 10 feet off the ground when needed.Collaborate with mechanical and electrical assemblers, as well as quality control personnel, to complete projects efficiently.Provide guidance and on-the-job training to other assemblers when experienced, helping to improve team skills and productivity.Demonstrate initiative by identifying issues, suggesting improvements, and taking ownership of assigned tasks.Essential SkillsAt least 2+ years of assembly experience in a manufacturing environment.Proficiency in mechanical assembly of large metal boxes, enclosures, or electrical switchgears.Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.Skilled in using hand tools and power tools for fabrication and assembly.Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work orders.Capability to work at heights on ladders less than 10 feet off the ground.Basic computer knowledge, including familiarity with Microsoft Word.Experience performing quality checks on completed assemblies.Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in a production environment.Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.Additional Skills & Qualifications4+ years of experience assembling large-sized metal boxes, enclosures, or electrical switchgears.Experience reading spec sheets and three-line drawings for electrical and mechanical assemblies.Experience performing root cause analysis for quality issues.Ability to teach, coach, and guide other assemblers on processes and best practices.Familiarity with electrical enclosures, switchgear, electrical panels, metal frames, and breakers.Exposure to or experience with electrical switchgear manufacturers and related products.Initiative and a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.Comfort working in a structured, production-driven environment with consistent hours and potential overtime.Why Work Here?You will join a large, stable organization with significant growth driven by a strong industry position and public stock listing. The plant is large, with multiple divisions and sections, and this position is located in a single, very clean and organized bay that is climate controlled to approximately 74°F. Around 30 people work in this section, including mechanical assemblers, electrical assemblers, and quality control staff, with more than 200 employees at the overall site and hundreds more at other locations supporting assembly, fabrication, and paint operations. The dress code requires steel-toe footwear, work pants, a work shirt, and safety glasses. The standard schedule is a day shift from Monday to Thursday, 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing 40 hours over four days, with additional hours depending on production needs. When required, overtime may include Friday shifts from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or shorter, and Saturday shifts from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or shorter, with recent workloads averaging around 50 hours per week.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $27.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
