Job description
AssemblerThe Assembler supports production operations by feeding and catching materials on various machines, operating small hand and power tools, and assembling wooden, corrugated, and foam products. This role focuses on building boxes, packing crates, skids, pallets, and other custom packaging subassemblies while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.ResponsibilitiesFollow all safety rules, procedures, and policies to maintain a safe work environment.Run assigned machines at safe speeds while producing top-quality output that meets customer requirements.Set up machines and make necessary adjustments to all parts of the equipment, including feeding and monitoring corrugated sheets and adjusting pressures as needed.Perform minor machine maintenance and promptly alert supervisors to any unusual conditions or mechanical issues.Detect, prevent, and resolve quality issues, involving the Assembly Lead or management to confirm quality expectations and resolve concerns when necessary.Hand-assemble cartons using HMT hot melt guns and other small hand tools.Add and insert parts into boxes according to work instructions and product specifications.Apply tape and other materials to secure packaging and finished goods.Hand-assemble corrugated and foam packs and other custom packaging subassemblies.Clean, repair, and refurbish crates and boxes for reuse, ensuring they meet quality standards.Effectively rotate within jobs of the same or lower level to support production needs and maintain workflow.Follow written and oral directions accurately and consistently.Work as a strong team player, demonstrating professionalism and helping to resolve issues effectively.Operate as a self-starter, working independently when needed while also accepting direction from the Assembly Lead to ensure efficient operations.Complete production reporting duties accurately and on time.Be available to work overtime with little or no notice when production demands require it.Lift materials and products weighing up to 20 pounds as part of daily tasks.Perform all other duties as assigned to support overall production and facility operations.Essential SkillsExperience assembling products in a manufacturing or production environment.Ability to follow detailed work instructions, both written and verbal.Proficiency using hand tools and power tools in a safe and effective manner.Basic mechanical aptitude and an understanding of how and why components are put together.Capability to perform all job duties, including active, physical work throughout the shift.Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate professionally with coworkers and supervisors.Willingness to accept direction from leads and supervisors to support efficient production.Reliability and flexibility to work scheduled hours and overtime as needed.Ability to lift up to 20 pounds on a regular basis.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in general labor, assembly, or production work.Comfort working with mechanical equipment and performing minor machine adjustments.Attention to detail for inspection and quality control of assembled products.Ability to adapt to different tasks and rotate between jobs of similar or lower levels.Strong initiative and self-starting attitude, with the ability to work independently when required.Why Work Here?You will join a stable, team-focused workplace where employees enjoy a supportive culture and long-term career growth. The environment is loud and noisy due to active machinery, and the work is consistently physical and hands-on throughout the day. Team members work closely with supportive supervisors in a collaborative, team-focused culture. Regular shifts run Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with overtime available depending on production needs. Work involves frequent use of hand and power tools, hot melt guns, and packaging materials in an industrial setting.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Schenectady, NY.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
