Job description
General TechnicianThe General Technician supports the manufacture of existing product lines, the assembly of Ground Support Equipment (GSE), prototype unit assembly, and the maintenance of lab equipment. In this role, you collaborate closely with engineers, quality control, and leadership to help develop spaceflight electronics. This position offers strong growth potential as you expand your technical skillset and become more familiar with the company’s products, processes, and standards.ResponsibilitiesUse a variety of hand and power tools, including cutters, tweezers, crimpers, soldering irons, and wire strippers to assemble and build products.Assemble electronic and mechanical components, including wiring and wire harnesses, in accordance with drawings, blueprints, and documented work instructions.Support the manufacture of existing product lines and the assembly of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and prototype units.Maintain and perform basic maintenance on lab equipment as needed to support ongoing production and development activities.Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to identify, communicate, and resolve technical or quality-related issues.Follow all safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area in compliance with company procedures and policies.Work as part of a team assembling products for customers, supporting colleagues to meet quality and delivery goals.Actively seek opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in assembly, test, and related operations.Support occasional overtime and weekend work when required to meet production schedules or project deadlines.Perform other duties as assigned to support production, engineering, and laboratory operations.Essential SkillsHigh School Diploma or equivalent.0-6 years of technician work experience in a relevant field.Familiarity or strong interest in CCA surface mount (SMT) soldering of 0402 or larger components, including resistors, capacitors, transistors, integrated circuits, and through-hole components such as connectors and transformers.Ability to perform fine, detailed operations under a microscope or other magnifying devices while using precision hand tools.Ability to read and follow assembly instructions, drawings, and basic blueprints for electronic and mechanical assemblies.Proficiency in using hand tools and basic power tools, including cutters, tweezers, crimpers, soldering irons, and wire strippers.Ability to use a computer, including fluency in Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain and follow established processes and procedures consistently.Ability to sit and operate at a workstation using soldering irons, microscopes, and related equipment for extended periods, including shifts of up to 10 hours.Commitment to following safety protocols and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience or interest in electrical or mechanical assembly, including hobbies such as electronics projects, automotive work, or similar hands-on activities.Prior experience performing rework, modification, or repair of electronic assemblies.Exposure to or experience with space hardware or spaceflight electronics.Experience with J-STD-001 and other IPC standards such as IPC-A-610.NASA or JPL-related certifications or training in electronic assembly standards.Comfort working with wire harnesses, wiring, and both electronic and mechanical subassemblies.Ability to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and suggest process enhancements.Why Work Here?You join a team that values long-term growth, job security, and technical excellence in a highly specialized industry. The role involves extended periods at a workstation using soldering irons, microscopes, and fine hand tools to perform detailed assembly and rework. You collaborate closely with a team-oriented group of technicians, engineers, and quality specialists, following structured processes and safety protocols. Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required to support production schedules and project deadlines, and you are expected to follow the site’s cleanroom practices and attire requirements appropriate for a controlled, electronics-focused facility.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fairfax, VA.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
