This position is one of three newly approved faculty hires in business and accounting and will commence on August 1, 2027. Candidates with a strong interest in finance education within a nationally ranked liberal arts and science setting are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates are expected to excel in teaching at the undergraduate level, mentor and advise students, and conduct original research leading to peer-reviewed publications or other significant scholarly contributions to the discipline. A Ph.D. or D.B.A in finance or a related discipline is required by August 1, 2027; ABD candidates will be considered, provided the degree is conferred before that date. Prior university-level teaching experience and corporate or financial industry experience are highly preferred but not required. The teaching load is five sections per academic year. In addition to the introductory corporate finance course, the candidate will have the opportunity to teach advanced finance electives related to their area of expertise. Successful candidates are expected to excel in teaching at the undergraduate level, mentor and advise students, and conduct original research leading to peer-reviewed publications or other significant scholarly contributions to the discipline. Duties also include service to the department and university.

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and contribute to Furman's commitment to expanding access and opportunity within our rich learning culture. The ideal candidate will also be eager to develop high-impact, engaged learning experiences, including directing and mentoring undergraduate research and course-related projects.

The Business and Accounting Department offers bachelor's degrees in Accounting, Business, and Finance. Within the Business major, students can select a track in Entrepreneurship, Marketing, International Business, or Business Administration. The department also participates in interdisciplinary minors in Data Analytics and Visual Strategy, as well as community-engaged courses. There are currently 10 full-time business and accounting faculty members. The Joe & Diana Hurley Finance & Business Analytics Lab provides students and faculty with access to Bloomberg terminals and Capital IQ. Faculty receive robust research support, including access to statistical analysis tools such as SAS, STATA, SPSS, and ArcGIS, alongside institutional subscriptions to The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg news.

Furman University is dedicated to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community through excellence in teaching, mentorship, and programming. We believe that cultural understanding, inclusiveness, and freedom of inquiry, thought, and discourse are essential components of a transformative undergraduate education.

We advance these ideals with a liberal arts and sciences curriculum built on a substantial general education program, featuring traditional and innovative elements, and a robust portfolio of disciplinary and interdisciplinary major and minor areas of study. Additionally, we have established and continue to develop various initiatives, including historic projects, dialogue programs such as On Discourse and the Intergroup Dialogues Program, the Center for Interpersonal Connections, and four distinctive external facing institutes.

Applicants should submit the following documents as a single PDF in the order listed: a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy and interests, statement of research, and complete contact information for three references. The statement of teaching philosophy and interests should describe your inclusive teaching and mentoring efforts, broadly conceived, and how your teaching and mentoring may contribute to a liberal arts and sciences community that aims, among other things, to "honor inquiry, promote diversity, (and) strive for equity" (FUture Focused). You may also discuss any relevant professional development, service contributions, or other experiences that have refined your skills or demonstrate your efforts in these areas. While detailing your specific teaching interests discussion of your prior course experience and any industry background that can be leveraged to enhance classroom instruction and student mentorship is welcomed.
