Job description
The Mission of Veterans Place is to empower veterans' transition from homeless to home, ending the cycle of homelessness, and to assist all at-risk veterans to become engaged, valuable citizens who contribute to their communities. Our vision is a community where veteran homelessness is rare, brief, and non-reoccurring and where veterans are valued, productive, and respected citizens who contribute to their community. nPosition Summary:
nThe Transitional Housing program at Veterans Place provides up to two years of residential support for Veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The Assistant Case Manager is the on-site direct care worker, working to enhance the quality of life for our veterans while supporting the mission of the organization. The position requires an individual who is flexible enough to assume a variety of roles as dictated by the changing needs of our Veterans. It is crucial that an individual be able to relate well to others and handle administrative responsibilities. The Assistant Case Manager is more than just a friendly presence; she/he is the crucial link in creating an environment in which our Veterans heal, grow and prepare to re-enter society as productive, self-sufficient individuals.
nPosition Responsibilities:
nTime Commitment and Duty:
nVeterans Place of Washington Boulevard is staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The Assistant Case Manager (ACM) must be available during all days and shifts and to work holidays. Compensation is made for holidays worked. The typical schedule will be focused on these hours when other staff members are not on the property.
nTransportation:
nnActs as the primary van driver when on duty and provides transportation services to veterans according to program, appointment, and community needs.
n nCommunity Development and Programming:
nnAssesses needs and interests of Veterans Place residents by interacting with them on a regular basis.
nInitiates programs, activities and community development that address the social, recreational, educational and development aspects of the residents' lives and promote positive relationships, sobriety and supportive community engagement.
nAssists with orientation and welcoming of new residents.
nWorks with staff members to promote responsible living and a culture of sobriety at Veterans Place and is a positive role model in both professional and personal behavior.
nAssists in collection and delivery of drug screen samples to the Veterans Administration for processing.
nMonitors physical facilities, conducts building rounds as required and identifies maintenance issues, report issues in Building Engines in a timely fashion.
n nnMaintains accurate and timely documentation of all Veteran-related interactions and shift activities, including DAUs, medication counts, groups, inspections, and other required program documentation.
nCompletes shift reports and incident reports as required. Conducts random room searches, documents findings, and confiscates prohibited/contraband items in accordance with program policy, immediately reporting incidents and confiscated items to Director of Reintegration Services, Transitional Housing Manager and the ACM Coordinator.
nAssists with room turnovers and conducts room and refrigerator inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with program standards.
nMaintain case records in accordance with program guidelines and professional requirements.
nFollow legal and ethical standards of service delivery, privacy, and confidentiality, complying with all applicable regulations.
nEnsure safety and security of residents, staff and facility.
n nCommunication:
nnCommunicates important and arising issues to Milieu Coordinator and, where needed, participates in development of an appropriate course of action.
nCommunicate policies and the rationale behind them to residents.
nParticipate in administrative, staff, clinical, and in-service activities and training as required.
n nnCollaborates with Case Managers to provide support and reinforce program expectations, ensuring Veterans remain compliant with program guidelines.
nCommunicates concerns, behavioral issues, and compliance-related matters to Case Managers and supervisory staff in a timely manner.

nQualifications:
nnHigh School Diploma or equivalent
nExperience working with the public and/or in a customer service capacity strongly preferred.
nAbility to relate well to others and handle administrative responsibilities.
nMust have a valid driver's license
nVeteran Status preferred
nPassing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is required and a background check will be conducted

nMust be able to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally using proper lifting techniques

nnAbility to focus on Recovery Support program details, follow through with timelines, and attend to multiple tasks and interactions.
n Ability to retain and recall information regarding clients, policies, procedures, and schedules.
nCapable of identifying issues, evaluating solutions, and making appropriate decisions independently or collaboratively.
n nn Ability to comprehend written and verbal information, express thoughts clearly, and communicate effectively with diverse populations (e.g., staff, veterans)
nCapacity to manage time effectively, maintain accurate records, coordinate meetings.
nAdequate visual acuity (with or without corrective lenses) to read documents, use a computer, and observe participants in meetings or events.
nAdequate auditory ability (with or without assistive devices) to understand conversations in person, over the phone, or in virtual meetings.
n Clear verbal expression to articulate expectations, deliver feedback, and conduct presentations
n Ability to use hands for basic tasks, including writing, typing, and handling documents.

nnMust be able to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds regularly using proper lifting techniques.
nRequired to stand or walk for 6 to 8 hours daily on concrete surfaces.
nAbility to sit and use computer for extended periods (4+ hours) with breaks.
