Assistant Project Manager — Construction (Athletic Courts & Site Work)
Maximise your chances of a successful application to this job by ensuring your CV and skills are a good match.
This is a construction project management role, not an IT, software, or technology project management position. This is not a remote position — this role is onsite at our client's office in the Lower Hudson Valley, NY, with regular site visits across NY, NJ, and CT. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
Location: Lower Hudson Valley, NY (Putnam County, near the NY/CT border) — onsite, office-based with regular site visits across NY, NJ, and CT. Local candidates strongly preferred; easily commutable from Danbury, Brookfield, New Fairfield, Carmel, Mahopac, Patterson, Somers, and Northern Westchester.
Pay Rate: $45/hour, plus paid overtime (roughly 20 hours/week in season) and a year-end bonus
Overview
For decades, this specialty construction contractor has built and restored tennis, pickleball, basketball, and multi-sport courts for private homeowners, clubs, schools, and property managers across the Tri-State area, along with the site work, drainage, fencing, retaining walls, and lighting that go with them. Long-tenured crews, repeat clients, and a reputation for craftsmanship keep the schedule full.
The Assistant Project Manager will step into a hands-on, high-visibility seat alongside senior project managers and ownership, coordinating field crews, running proposals, and keeping multiple jobs moving at once. This is a construction role through and through: plans, foundations, crews, materials, and job sites. It is also a genuine succession seat, built for someone who wants to grow into a Senior Project Manager role as senior leadership moves toward retirement.
This is not an IT, software, or technology project management position.
What the Assistant Project Manager will own:
Reviewing the daily schedule each morning and making sure crews, trucks, and materials are ready to roll
Coordinating up to 12 field crews, including construction crews and dump trucks, across multiple active jobs
Managing 2–3 projects at a time at different stages, from small reconditioning jobs to full new-court builds (typical projects run $25K to $220K, with larger builds reaching $1M)
Reviewing plans, assessing foundations and site conditions, and communicating with engineers
Conducting site visits to assess courts and meet with homeowners, property managers, club professionals, and facility owners
Building project proposals and pricing from site visits, using existing contract and pricing templates
Obtaining vendor quotes, ordering materials, and following up so proposals reach clients on time
Handling schedule changes, resolving field issues, and communicating change orders to clients
Closing out completed jobs with final site visits and photo documentation
Supporting crews in the field as projects get underway, while managing operations from the office
Software: Procore, Microsoft Office, and Excel
Compensation & Perks
$45/hour, with overtime paid at time-and-a-half; plan on roughly 20 hours of overtime per week during the busy season
Year-end bonus based on hours worked, with internal and merit components
Schedule: Monday–Friday starting at 6:30 AM, typically 55–60 hours/week in season, plus 1–2 Saturdays a month as weather and workload require
Roughly 70% office / 30% field, with site visits within about a 30-mile radius (some full days on the road)
Seasonal rhythm: spring and early summer are the peak build season; winter is noticeably slower
Company vehicle available when needed, including a van for materials and crew transport
Monthly health insurance stipend, with coverage available through the company's insurance broker
