Job Summary
The Assistant Director supports the Director in managing and coordinating nursing services to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. This leadership role assists with planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing department, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and standards of care.
Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions
* Support the Director in overseeing daily nursing operations and staff performance.
* Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing policies, procedures, and protocols.
* Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and facility policies.
* Participate in hiring, training, evaluating, and coaching nursing staff to maintain high standards of care and professionalism.
* Help manage staffing schedules, assignments, and coverage needs.
* Conduct clinical rounds to assess patient care, safety, and satisfaction.
* Monitor and ensure accurate documentation of care and treatment by nursing staff.
* Support infection control, quality assurance, and risk management initiatives.
* Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support care coordination and treatment planning.
* Respond to patient or family concerns with professionalism and empathy, escalating issues as appropriate.
* Act as a liaison between nursing staff and administration.
* Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
* Required
* High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
* Completion of an accredited program of nursing
* Preferred
* Bachelor's degree in nursing or healthcare administration
* Master's degree in nursing or healthcare administration
Experience:
* Required
* Three years of experience in clinical nursing
* Preferred
* One or more year of leadership experience
Certification/Licensure:
* Required
* Licensed Vocational Nurse, with authorization to practice in the State of Texas
* Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
* Must obtain within ninety (90) days of start date
* SAFE Approach Level III Certification
* Must obtain within six (6) months of start date
* Preferred
Registered Nurse (RN), with authorization to practice in the State of Texas
