Why Work Here?

Employees benefit from long-term stability with a large, established employer and a consistent workload focused on maintaining a university fleet rather than customer-pay repair work, making the environment less susceptible to seasonal slowdowns. Team members enjoy structured, predictable hours with less pressure from customer repair quotas or commission-based productivity models. The culture emphasizes learning and career growth, offering opportunities to work alongside experienced mechanics, gain exposure to a wide variety of fleet equipment and vehicles, and pursue pathways toward ASE certifications and advancement into more senior positions. A collaborative team environment supports ongoing training and skill development, with a mix of preventative maintenance, safety inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs providing variety in day-to-day work. As a permanent employee, you can access comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), HSA/FSA options, and tuition assistance through a university tuition benefit plan that provides subsidies for you, your eligible spouse, and tax dependent children.

Work Environment

This role is based in an automotive shop and fleet maintenance environment that supports university fleet vehicles. Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions depending on maintenance needs and fleet operations. The setting is fast-paced, with a consistent flow of preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs across numerous vehicle types and equipment. Team members use standard automotive tools and equipment, including hand tools, diagnostic devices, and tire service equipment. The schedule is generally structured Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break, and overtime opportunities with on-call responsibilities during snow periods. Employees are expected to follow appropriate safety practices and wear suitable shop attire and protective gear as required for working in an active maintenance facility.
