Description
This is an academic position in the practice and teaching of Allergy & Immunology to medical students, residents, and allied health professionals. This position is housed within the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery with the potential for a secondary appointment with the Department of Pediatrics.
Examples of Duties
I. Administration 5%
A. Assist in the administrative functions of the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery working with the Chair to develop systems of supervision and evaluation of residents and medical students.
B. Help develop specialized clinics related to the field of Allergy & Immunology where appropriate in conjunction with the School of Medicine.
II. Teaching 10%
A. Provide a role model as an educator.
B. Develop teaching modules in Allergy & Immunology.
C. Assist with methods as it relates to Allergy & Immunology for students, residents in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, pediatrics, and other residents rotating through this service.
D. Develop and implement programs in Allergy & Immunology for National distribution.
E. Participate in the development and implementation of Continuing Medical Education (CME) Programs.
F. Provide education to SIU-School of Medicine faculty, nurses, and allied health workers when requested.
G. Participate in education forums such as Morbidity and Mortality Conference, Journal Club, and other standing didactic lectures related to subspecialty.
III. Research 5%
A. Supervises and participates in research appropriate to field of interest related to Allergy & Immunology.
B. Promote research and scholarly activities within the Department by example and encouragement.
IV. Service 80%
A. Set an example as a highly skilled and conscientious practitioner of Allergy & Immunology with a practice style that is balanced with self-education and other academic activities which will provide an example to future practitioners of Allergy & Immunology.
1. Maintain a practice of Allergy & Immunology in order to continue clinical proficiency.
2. Provide a role model as a practitioner for faculty, house officers, students and fellow practitioners.
3. Attend National meetings, symposia and committees related to Allergy & Immunology.
4. Present papers and lectures at meetings of Allergy & Immunology or related fields.
5. Serve on committees where appropriate of National, Regional and State societies pertaining to Allergy & Immunology.
B. Represent the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery on committees as requested by the Chair of the Department.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A.Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
B.MD licensure in the State of Illinois, or the ability to obtain.
C.Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Allergy & Immunology.
D.Successful Completion of, or currently in, a Fellowship Program in Allergy & Immunology.
E.Possess competency in all areas of Allergy & Immunology
F.Demonstrate an interest in undergraduate and residency training.
G.Ability to travel between the various SIU locations and outreach clinics.
Supplemental Information
The budgeted annual salary range is $250,000 to $275,000, representing the academic base salary only, which is funded through the University. The final academic base salary will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget considerations. Additional clinical compensation will be provided separately through a member practice agreement .
