Description

The Department of Geology & Environmental Geosciences at Lafayette College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning July 1, 2027. We seek a teacher-scholar geologist with expertise in tectonics, structural geology, or closely related fields (e.g. geophysics, seismology, etc.) who would create innovative, field-based teaching and research opportunities for undergraduate students. The successful candidate will teach across the curriculum, including developing an introductory-level geology course and upper-level geology courses in structural geology and other areas of their expertise. The teaching load is four courses per year in the first year, and five courses per year thereafter. Applicants must have a strong interest in teaching undergraduates, a record of scholarly productivity, and plans for establishing and maintaining an active research program.

The Department of Geology & Environmental Geosciences is interested in building a culturally diverse intellectual community and strongly encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds and with interest in and/or experience working in collaborative interdisciplinary settings to apply.

Located in the Lehigh Valley in eastern Pennsylvania, 70 miles from both New York City and Philadelphia, Lafayette College is a small, private, undergraduate-only liberal arts and engineering institution with significant resources to support faculty members in their teaching and scholarship. Lafayette is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field or plans to complete all requirements for a Ph.D. prior to August 15, 2027. Research experience beyond graduate work is preferred and experience teaching undergraduates is a plus.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy and interests, a statement of scholarly interests, graduate and undergraduate transcripts, and three confidential letters of reference via Interfolio at the link below. Within the submitted materials, candidates should address how their teaching, scholarship, and/or service will support Lafayette's mission and values, with specific reference to our commitments to creating a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive community. Review of applications will begin November 16, 2026 and continue until the position is filled.
