Overview

The Department of Nursing at Providence College (also referred to as "the College" or "PC") invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing to join our growing and mission-driven program beginning August 2027. We are seeking an innovative and student-centered educator with expertise in Pathopharmacology who is excited to shape the future of nursing education at PC. The ideal candidate will be able to make meaningful connections between best practices in nursing education, a commitment to the dignity of the whole person, and the Catholic mission and identity of the College. The successful faculty member will play a pivotal role in designing and delivering high-impact didactic, and experiential learning experiences that prepare undergraduate nursing students to lead with excellence, compassion, and integrity.

They will collaborate closely with an enthusiastic team of faculty and professional staff to advance our cutting-edge teaching and simulation facilities and contribute to a dynamic curriculum that integrates leadership development, evidence-based practice, and holistic patient care. The new faculty member will teach Pathopharmacology I and II and may also teach other courses within the BSN curriculum such as nursing research, internship and research seminar, or NCLEX Prep depending upon qualifications, interest, and needs of the department. Nursing faculty at PC maintain an active scholarly agenda and contribute to college and professional service in accordance with expectations for tenured and pre-tenured faculty. Candidates with an earned doctorate and advanced professional training in nursing are strongly encouraged to apply.

The tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing will report to the Department Chair and provide high-quality undergraduate instruction. Primary responsibilities include developing, delivering, and assessing courses and experiential learning activities that reflect evidence-based practice and support the mission of Providence College. The faculty member will collaborate closely with simulation, lab, and clinical faculty to ensure consistency in medication-related content, clinical reasoning, and safe medication administration expectations across the curriculum. Additional duties include advising undergraduate nursing students, contributing to curriculum development, and participating in departmental and college services such as committee work, program review, and accreditation activities. The faculty member is expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda consistent with tenure expectations and to support students' professional growth by fostering leadership skills, clinical judgment, and research literacy within a collaborative, student-centered environment.

This is an exciting and historic opportunity to join PC's newly established School of Nursing and Health Sciences as it shapes an innovative, interdisciplinary curriculum for the next generation of students entering nursing and other health professions. The 153,000 sq. ft state-of-the-art Ben Mondor Center for Nursing and Health Sciences houses the School of Nursing and Health Sciences' existing and future undergraduate and graduate programs. This one-of-a-kind facility opened in January 2025 and features the latest classroom design and technologies and showcases expansive clinical simulation and research facilities. A student career education and advising center, along with conference and meeting space, is included as part of the inspiring resources intended for the next generation of healthcare providers, faculty, and staff.

As the student body at Providence College grows increasingly diverse, we have a strong preference for candidates who demonstrate a deep commitment to and proven ability in supporting the success of students from historically marginalized economic, social, and cultural groups.
