Assistant Professor - Psychology
The Department of Psychology at Spelman College is seeking to fill a position at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of August 2027. Faculty should be teacher-scholars who are dedicated to excellence in teaching, desire to pursue meaningful engagement in service to Spelman College, the profession, and the broader community, and an active research program. All candidates are expected to have a demonstrated interest in a liberal arts education at a women's historically Black college, be able to contribute effectively to undergraduate teaching, advising, and mentoring, assist in curriculum development and assessment, provide service to the department and College, as well as be active in scholarly, creative, and/or research productivity appropriate to a liberal arts environment. The successful candidate should have demonstrated scholarly productivity with the potential to secure external funding and to engage undergraduates in their scholarship, research, or creative pursuits.
We are seeking someone with a Ph.D. in Social Psychology or closely related fields. The ideal candidate will be expected to teach social psychology, race and gender psychology courses (e.g., Psychology of the African American Experience, Psychology of Women, and/or Psychology of Racism), research-based courses (e.g., Research Methods, Research Seminar, and Honors Thesis Seminar), and other courses in the candidate's area of expertise. The specific area of expertise within social psychology is open. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research complements the Department's strengths and curricular needs and integrates an intersectional lens in exploring culture, race and ethnicity, gender, intergroup relations, prejudice and discrimination, health and well-being, social justice, and social change.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in hand or have fulfilled all requirements for the degree by the start of the appointment. Applications for appointment at the Advanced Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank will not be considered.
