Job description

Assistant Quality Control InspectorAlamo Structural Steel, LLC is a leading structural steel fabricator in Texas, committed to integrity, quality, and excellence. We take pride in delivering high-quality fabricated steel on time while upholding the highest ethical standards.As an Assistant Quality Control Inspector, it is responsible for ensuring all fabricated steel products meet project specifications, customer requirements, applicable codes, and company quality standards. This position works closely with shop personnel, project managers, welders, fitters, and field crews to verify quality throughout fabrication and before shipment.Minimum Starting Salary: $75,000.00 depending on experience Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00am to 3:30pmEssential Functions:Perform in-process and final inspections of fabricated structural and miscellaneous steel components.Verify dimensions, hole locations, fit-up, weld quality, camber, and assembly accuracy against final fabrication drawings.Ensure materials match fabrication drawings, material test reports (MTRs), and project specifications.Inspect incoming materials for damage, correct grade, and compliance with purchase orders.Conduct visual weld inspections in accordance with applicable AWS standards.Verify proper weld sizes, lengths, locations, and welding procedures are being followed.Ensure fabricated assemblies meet customer and contract requirements before shipment.Perform other duties as assigned.Documentation & Reporting:Maintain quality inspection records and reports.Track and document non-conformance reports (NCRs).Create punch lists and coordinate corrective actions with production personnel.Review shop drawings, specifications for quality requirements.Maintain weld logs, inspection reports, calibration records, and material traceability documentation.Assist with customer audits and third-party inspections.Process Improvement:Identify quality concerns and recommend corrective actions.Work with fabrication leads and supervisors to improve production quality and efficiency.Monitor recurring defects and implement preventative measures.Assist in developing and updating quality control procedures and checklists.Promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement throughout the shop.Compliance & Safety:Ensure compliance with:AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – SteelAISC Code of Standard PracticeProject-specific quality requirementsCompany quality proceduresParticipate in safety meetings and maintain a safe work environment.Qualifications:Minimum Required Qualifications:5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, welding, or quality control.Ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings and specifications.Strong understanding of fabrication processes, including: Fitting, Welding, Cutting, Drilling, Assembly.Knowledge of AWS welding symbols and inspection requirements.Proficient with tape measures, levels, squares, and inspection tools.Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with production personnel.Preferred Requirements:Ability to train and study for (CWI) certification.AISC quality management experience.Experience with structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and heavy industrial fabrication.Familiarity with Tekla, with the ability to learn other fabrication software.Physical Requirements:Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.Additional Information:Alamo Structural Steel is an equal opportunity employer and drug-free workplace that complies with ADA regulations.All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
