The CVM at Cornell is a top-ranked veterinary college and houses a world-renowned Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) curriculum. The BTS department within the CVM is a widely recognized unit with long-standing educational and research & discovery missions. On the educational side, BTS is deeply committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring at the pre-college, undergraduate, graduate, and professional (DVM) levels. This position will be 90% teaching and 10% academic service (no clinical service). The successful candidate will be joining a rich community of outstanding and dedicated teaching professors in the department and across the entire college, with a commitment to educational excellence and pedagogical innovation.

Required qualifications:

PhD or DVM or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline

Evidence of past research experience and teaching dedication and excellence in animal science, especially reproductive biology

Experience in and/or penchant for collaborative, team-based teaching

Interest and willingness to co-lead a newly established Master’s program in reproductive medicine

Interest and willingness to participate in problem-based learning (PBL) veterinary courses and traditional lecture-based courses

Commitment to collegiality, intellectual humility, and strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff, and faculty

If associate professor-level or above, dedication to training and mentorship of early-career teachers

The teaching effort will be divided evenly between Foundation Course III (FC3) in the veterinary curriculum and the newly established Master’s program in Fundamental and Translational Reproductive Medicine (MS-FTRM).

The primary focus of FC3 (Function & Dysfunction) is small and large animal veterinary physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology. The successful candidate will be expected to:

Serve on the course design group (CDG), to help the course leader develop, revise, and run a highly effective course that serves the students’ needs and fulfills the educational mission. This includes participating in regular meetings throughout the year, and accomplishing tasks as assigned by the course leader across a wide range of course related issues, including course content, structure, assessments, student issues, grading, case study updates, etc.

Facilitate small group sessions (referred to as “tutor groups”) and give lectures in both FC3a (Spring semester) and FC3b (Fall semester), as well as develop and supervise laboratory sessions. The most critical lecture and lab needs are in reproductive physiology, but the successful candidate will be expected to help with any topical areas as determined by the FC3 course leader.

For the MS-FTRM program, the successful candidate will be expected to:

Provide instruction and/or instructional support for the MS-FTRM foundation courses, including Comparative Molecular Strategies of Reproduction, Advanced Techniques in Reproduction, and Emerging Topics in Reproductive Medicine. This includes giving lectures, managing lab protocols, preparing lab equipment and supplies, helping develop grading rubrics, and even leading instruction some weeks. Serve on the MS-FTRM leadership team and help organize monthly meetings of the leadership team.

Organize and attend regular meetings of the MS-FTRM oversight committee.

Participate in annual admissions process, including review of applications, virtual interviews, and communication with prospective students.

Coordinate communication with external partners, particularly those who are providing slots for externships. Advise students in the program, including support for classroom learning, matching of research interests with externship opportunities, and guidance on career development and employment options.

Establish and regularly update the field handbook for the Graduate Field of Reproductive Medicine.

Work with the college Marketing & Communications team to update information on the MS-FTRM website and promote advertising of the program.

Coordinate ongoing evaluation of the MS-FTRM program from participating students, faculty, staff, and alumni in order to continuously improve the program.

The salary range for this full-time 12 month/year, non-tenure-track faculty appointment is $90,000-125,000. Offers higher than the published salary range might be considered to meet unique circumstances, qualifications, academic discipline, and experience.
