Associate Academic Advisor - Bridging Disciplines Programs

The Associate Academic Advisor provides holistic academic advising and student support for undergraduate students pursuing one or more Bridging Disciplines Programs (BDPs). The advisor assists students from application through certificate completion by providing guidance on curriculum planning, Connecting Experiences (CEs), degree progress, registration, university policies, and academic success strategies.

The position also contributes to student engagement, recruitment, programming, outreach, and operational support for BDP initiatives while collaborating with faculty, colleges, and campus partners.

Responsibilities include:

Advising prospective, current, and returning BDP students through individual appointments, drop-in advising, email, phone, and virtual meetings.

Guiding students in developing individualized academic plans integrating BDP certificates with major degree requirements.

Interpreting university, college, and BDP academic policies.

Reviewing degree progress and monitoring student completion requirements.

Assisting students in experiencing academic challenges and referring them to appropriate campus resources.

Maintaining accurate advising records using university systems.

Reviewing BDP applications for completeness and eligibility.

Evaluating student progress toward certificate completion.

Reviewing and approving Connecting Experiences (CEs) using established program guidelines.

Processing petitions, exceptions, substitutions, and other student requests.

Conducting routine audits of student records and communicating outstanding requirements.

Assisting students during registration periods.

Managing seat requests and enrollment permissions when applicable.

Answering registration-related inquiries.

Coordinating with departmental contacts regarding enrollment issues.

Assisting in planning and implementing orientation sessions, information sessions, workshops, coffee chats, student networking events, poster session support, certificate recognition ceremony, and supporting student communications regarding deadlines, events, and opportunities.

Representing BDP at recruitment events.

Participating in tabling activities.

Delivering presentations for prospective students.

Collaborating with campus partners to promote BDP opportunities.

Assisting with marketing initiatives.

Maintaining advising documentation and procedures.

Compiling student data and reports.

Assisting with assessment activities.

Participating in staff meetings and professional development.

Supporting implementation of new initiatives and process improvements.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree.

Experience advising students in higher education or providing student services.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Experience working collaboratively with diverse populations.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and student information systems.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or related field.

Experience advising undergraduate students.

Knowledge of UT Austin academic policies and procedures.

Experience using university student information systems.

Experience planning student programs or events.

Experience reviewing academic records or degree audits.

Experience working with interdisciplinary academic programs.

Salary Range

$49,800 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Work to be performed in standard office environment
