Department: Medical Malpractice

Reports to: Member Attorney(s)

OVERVIEW

RPWB attorneys have extensive experience in sophisticated litigation brought locally, nationally, and internationally. We focus on the representation of individuals, corporations, and governments in complex disputes across a diverse range of practice areas. We are seeking to add an Associate Attorney to the team to assist in the prosecution of medical malpractice cases and to join our highly respected and prestigious team at RPWB!

GENERAL SUMMARY

This position works under the supervision of Member Attorneys to assist in the prosecution of medical malpractice cases. This position participates in all aspects of medical malpractice litigation and may support litigation in other practice groups as the needs of the Firm evolve. These responsibilities are accomplished in accordance with RPWB's policy on business ethics maintaining the confidentiality of information exchanged in the execution of duties.

WHAT WE OFFER

This medical malpractice litigation attorney actively manages cases through every stage of the legal process, from initial client interviews and factual investigations to discovery, depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial work. They conduct extensive medical and legal research-including comprehensive record reviews, timeline creation, and analysis of relevant laws and guidelines-to build strategic arguments and draft precise, well-reasoned pleadings, motions, and briefs. A highly collaborative professional, they partner with other attorneys to plan case trajectories, manage team productivity, supervise support staff, and keep supervising attorneys fully informed on project progress. They mitigate risk by anticipating potential legal hurdles, preparing senior attorneys and experts for depositions, and contributing reliable legal perspectives during team meetings. Ultimately, they utilize strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to resolve complex legal issues while maintaining an excellent professional rapport with clients, co-counsel, and external contacts.

WHAT YOU OFFER

Juris Doctor in good standing with South Carolina Bar or other state in which work will be done

Excellent command of the English language including correct use of grammar and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Experience in a plaintiff law firm preferably in handling medical malpractice cases

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Ability to organize, plan, prioritize, meet deadlines, and work under pressure

Capable of working both in teams and independently

Ability to build rapport with support staff, other attorneys, clients, co-counsel, and external contacts

Good listening skills with ability to comprehend and follow instructions

Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel with the ability to learn other computer systems quickly

Ability to maintain confidentiality of Firm, client, and personnel information

Reliable and dependable with strong work ethic

Professional appearance and demeanor at all times

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to sit and stand for various periods

Ability to lift and transport items of up to 25 pounds
