Job description

At The Joel Bieber Firm (JBF), our clients’ needs are at the forefront of what we do and drive us to provide excellent, personalized service. The Associate Attorney manages a caseload of personal injury matters from intake through resolution under the guidance of Senior and Managing Attorneys. This role focuses on building core litigation, negotiation, and case-management skills while handling primarily low-to-moderate complexity claims (e.g., low value cases, well-defined damages). The Associate Attorney works within defined settlement authority and escalates complex or high-exposure issues as appropriate. Key Job Responsibilities:

Manage an assigned caseload of personal injury claims (e.g., auto accidents, medical malpractice) from intake through settlement or trial in accordance with court rules and all applicable deadlines.

Conduct client interviews at intake and gather the facts, records, and documentation to evaluate the claim.

Review and analyze medical records, billing, police reports, and other evidence to assess liability, causation, and damages.

Keep cases progressing within stage-based timeframes, taking affirmative steps to maintain active case progression.

Proactively seek guidance or assistance when needed to address case challenges, resolve barriers to progression, or ensure deadlines and client needs are met.

Delegate case tasks (e.g., records requests, document preparation, file organization) and provide legal direction to paralegals and legal support staff and review their work for accuracy and completeness.

Provide input to Paralegal Services leadership on personnel, workload, and performance matters relating to paralegals.

Conduct legal research for cases in assigned practice area.

Represent clients at depositions, hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials (under Senior Attorney guidance, if needed).

Draft, review, and modify claims documents, motions, discovery responses, demand letters, pleadings, subpoenas, memoranda, and other legal documents.

Take and defend depositions of parties and treating providers (under Senior Attorney guidance, if needed).

Support Senior Attorneys on more complex cases.

Maintain regular, proactive client communication and manage client expectations regarding case timelines and next steps.

Explain settlement offers, litigation options, and anticipated net recovery to clients, and obtain informed consent prior to resolving claims.

Adhere to ethical rules, firm procedures, and case-handling standards.

Escalate case-level risk (e.g., including missed deadlines, coverage gaps) to Senior Attorneys.

Develop key skills in litigation, negotiation, and case management through hands-on assignments, seeking mentorship, and applying feedback from Senior Attorneys.

Participate in Firm training and internal knowledge sharing to maintain awareness of developments in personal injury law, procedure, and venue-specific practice affecting assigned cases.

Maintain active bar licensure and satisfy all continuing legal education requirements.

Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Active license and in good standing with the relevant state bar

Minimum of 1 year of personal injury litigation experience

Experience in Personal Injury, Mass Torts, or Medical Malpractice law, preferred

Knowledge of personal injury law, including claims, litigation, insurance negotiations, and court procedures.

Strong case management, organization, and prioritization skills.

Sound legal judgment, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effective communication with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and internal teams.
