Job description

Associate Director of Facilities and Exhibits - Dr Pepper Museum

About the Dr Pepper Museum

The Dr Pepper Museum is a dynamic, independent nonprofit located in Downtown Waco, Texas. Housed in the historic 1906 Artesian Manufacturing and Bottling Company building, we preserve the heritage of America’s oldest major soft drink while creating interactive experiences for over 200,000 annual visitors.

Why This Role?

We are seeking an autonomous, forward-thinking Associate Director of Facilities and Exhibits for a hybrid leadership position where strategic vision meets hands-on impact. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director, you will have the authority to make critical decisions that safeguard our historic home, lead a dedicated maintenance team, and collaborate across departments to design durable, accessible spaces for fans of all ages.

Your Impact & Responsibilities

Stewardship & Historic Preservation

Oversee daily operations, maintenance, and long‑term capital planning for all historic museum buildings, grounds, and infrastructure.

Lead key projects from concept to completion, including major renovations, historic preservation, and new construction.

Ensure total compliance with ADA, OSHA, fire safety, and State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) guidelines.

Collaborate closely with our creative team to fabricate, install, and maintain permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Manage technical aspects of exhibits, including architectural lighting, AV integration, and interactive components.

Build maintenance workflows that guarantee a flawless, high‑functioning experience for every visitor.

Strategic Leadership & Operations

Manage and mentor a dedicated internal team of janitorial and maintenance staff, as well as external contractors.

Build and forecast annual facility budgets, negotiate vendor contracts, and drive cost‑control strategies.

Modernize operations by utilizing CMMS and advanced facility management software to track building systems.

Who You Are

Experienced Leader: You bring at least 7 years of progressive experience in facility or exhibit management. (Experience in a museum, historic property, or cultural institution is highly preferred!).

Educated or Battle‑Tested: A degree in Facilities Management, Construction Science, or a related field is a plus, but we strongly value commensurate hands‑on experience.

Technical Expert: You have a deep understanding of building systems, construction materials, and exhibit fabrication techniques.

Values‑Driven: You are genuinely committed to safety, cleanliness, accessibility, sustainability, and inclusive design.

Bonus Points: Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is a major asset!

Why You’ll Love Working Here

We support our leadership team with a robust, highly competitive benefits package:

Competitive Salary: $75,000 - $90,000/year, commensurate with your leadership experience.

Excellent Health Care: 85% employer‑paid medical and 100% employer‑paid dental and vision for the employee.

Secure Your Future: 401(k) retirement plan with an incredible 6% Safe Harbor Match after 90 days.

Time to Recharge: 10 paid Holidays (immediate eligibility) + accrued Paid Time Off (PTO).

Sweet Perks: 30% employee discount at our famous Gift Shop and legendary Soda Fountain!

Ready to Make an Impact?

Join us in keeping history alive and inspiring the next generation of museum visitors.

To Apply:

Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter explaining why you are the perfect fit for the Dr Pepper Museum. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.

The Dr Pepper Museum is an equal opportunity employer.
