School & College Legal Services (SCLS) is growing! We are seeking a passionate, early-careerAssociate General Counsel to join our dedicated team.
SCLS provides high-quality, cost-effective legal and labor relations services to Northern California's K-12 schools, community colleges, and county offices of education. About the Role
As an Associate General Counsel, you will partner closely with public education institutions to deliver practical, preventive, and mission-driven counsel. This is a fantastic opportunity to build a solid foundation in public agency law under the guidance of experienced mentors.
Key Responsibilities:
Advise and represent education clients on various legal matters.
Conduct legal research, draft memoranda, and prepare written opinions.
Present dynamic trainings and workshops for clients.
Collaborate with SCLS colleagues across diverse practice areas.
What We Are Looking For:
Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Bar Status: Active membership in the State Bar of California.
Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, with a solid foundational skill in conducting legal research.
Interests: A strong interest or foundational experience in student matters, personnel, public contracting, and board governance within a K-12 or community college setting.
Travel: A valid California driver's license and the ability to travel occasionally to client sites, or a reliable method of transportation to client sites, including potentially remote locations.
