Job description

120K base + 22% annualized production (our current associate is on pace for ~160K) | 36-hour week | No on-call (ever)

Let's skip the part where I tell you we have a \"fun, fast-paced team\" (but they are amazing) and a \"state-of-the-art facility\" (it is very colorful).

Here are the actual numbers.

What you'll earn

$120,000 base salary

Topped off to 22% annualized production once your base and benefits are covered.

No negative accrual. Everyone needs time off, so our production calculations allow you to take true PTO.

My current associate is on pace for approximately $160,000 this year on the same 36-hour schedule with 2 years of experience.

Approximately $22,000 in benefits for a full-time doctor.

What your week actually looks like

36 hours = full-time. Not 40 with a wink- please take your lunch break and leave on time!

20–30 minute appointments. 20–24 patients across an 8-hour shift.

Three assistants/techs supporting you during appointments & surgery.

No after-hours emergencies. No on-call. Local emergency and urgent care centers take all overnight/weekend cases.

Must work Fridays.

Part-time option: 20 hrs/week including Fridays (benefits package listed reflects full-time; part-time compensation prorated and discussed individually)

What you won't take home with you

Charts. We have ScribeNote for AI-assisted charting and Shepherd for records. I want you to easily finish notes so you can fully disconnect when you leave.

Drama. No after-hours work texts. We train the whole team in low-conflict communication and actively teach practices for leaving work at work.

How we practice

Every patient is handled on a formal Fear, Anxiety & Stress protocol. Our care team confidently discusses and enforces policies for pre-visit medication and in-clinic sedation since these are part of our standard tools here. Doctors are required to get and stay Fear Free certified .

Every client gets an itemized estimate before treatment . Our care team reviews the estimate, and brings you any financial limitations so you can help guide your clients through the best care options. No surprise billing, no judgment for clients that can't do everything.

Who owns this practice

Me! Hi, I'm Whitney Keller, a 2012 graduate from Texas A&M and I founded this practice in 2016. We're not corporate or backed by private equity. Decisions about medicine and pricing get made in this building, by people who care about the client and the patient. I’m also a mom, I actively participate in a veterinary life coaching group, and I'm passionate about sustainability in all forms. If you want to know anything about me- my direct contact information is included. Please ask!

Mentorship that's actually on the calendar

Weekly doctor meetings to eat and collaborate about cases, mental health, life, everything!

Monthly numbers review (appointments, ACT by exam type, production, salary, benefits) so you never have to guess where you stand

Questions in between, any time. You will never be the only doctor puzzling over a case alone.

Benefits included

$2,000/year CE allowance with 4 CE days in addition to your PTO

2 weeks (9 days) paid vacation in year one

Health, disability, and life insurance

Professional liability insurance

Texas license and Fear Free certification fees covered

TVMA & VVMA dues covered (membership required)

DEA registration reimbursed

Uniform and professional subscription allowances

About the Rio Grande Valley

Edinburg is in South Texas, right next to McAllen, an hour from the coast, and four hours from three major metros. Our cost of living is about 20% lower than the national average, so your salary & benefits go considerably further than they would in Austin or Dallas. I know relocation is a real question, so please call and ask.

Talk to me directly

The included contact information gets you in contact with me directly. No red tape or run arounds, but I also may not answer immediately if it's the weekend. Whatever your questions, I'll tell you the honest answers.

One more thing.

If you're interested in ownership, I'm open to a conversation about long-term ownership or partnership with the right person. No pressure either way; this is first and foremost a great associate role.

What we need from you

DVM, licensed in good standing or license-eligible in Texas

2+ years of small animal general practice experience

Confidence with soft tissue surgery and running your own surgical caseload

Dentistry proficiency preferred (extractions)

Willingness to learn procedures you haven't done yet (and teach us what you do know!)

Fear Free & USDA certifications within 90 days of hire

Spanish proficiency highly beneficial
