Counsel – Insurance Coverage | New York City (Hybrid)
$150,000–$225,000 Base + Bonus
Distinct is partnering with a highly regarded mid-sized New York City law firm looking to add an experienced Of Counsel attorney to its established Insurance Coverage Practice Group.
This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned coverage attorney looking for a senior-level position offering sophisticated work, meaningful client contact, autonomy, and long-term career growth within a collaborative and well-respected practice.
The successful attorney will take a key role in advising and representing major insurers in complex coverage disputes involving:
Comprehensive General Liability (CGL)
Directors & Officers (D&O)
Errors & Omissions (E&O)
Employment Practices Liability (EPL)
Professional Liability
Commercial Property & Casualty
The Role
As Of Counsel, you’ll have significant responsibility for managing complex coverage matters, providing strategic advice to clients, and working closely with partners on high-value disputes.
Responsibilities will include:
Leading complex insurance coverage matters from inception through resolution
Providing sophisticated coverage analysis and strategic advice to insurer clients
Drafting and reviewing coverage opinions, position letters, pleadings, motions, and other substantive legal documents
Handling litigation in state and federal courts, including arbitrations, mediations, and negotiations
Maintaining strong relationships with insurer clients and serving as a trusted point of contact
Working collaboratively with partners on case strategy and major coverage disputes
Providing guidance and mentorship to more junior attorneys where appropriate
Staying current on developments in insurance coverage law and advising clients on their potential impact
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring significant insurance coverage and policy analysis experience, together with the judgment and confidence to handle sophisticated matters with a high degree of independence.
Candidates should have:
Strong experience handling complex insurance coverage matters
In-depth knowledge of policy language, coverage principles, and relevant case law
New York and/or New Jersey Bar admission; Pennsylvania admission is a plus
Meaningful litigation experience in state and/or federal courts
Excellent analytical, research, drafting, and client communication skills
The ability to independently manage matters, deadlines, and client relationships
A collaborative approach and an interest in contributing to the continued growth of the practice

Compensation:
