About JerseySTEM

All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.

Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.

Overview

This is a pro-bono volunteer position.

JerseySTEM is looking for talented professionals across our departments to commit time and energy as long-term engagement for our mission to provide STEM education to underrepresented middle school girls.

We’re looking for a volunteer Software Development Lead with a background in software or IT to help manage small tech projects and support other technical volunteers. This person will help keep our tools and systems running smoothly by writing scripts and connecting different platforms using APIs.

We work across several services (Jira, Salesforce, Google Workplace, Slack, iCiMS), and have automations to make the process of onboarding our many short term volunteers as streamlines as possible. We do this by maintaining scripts (primarily google app script/javascript) and other APIs and automated workflows.

Responsibilities

Guide and support a small team of junior engineers working on internal tools and scripts

Make sure teams are making progress on their assigned tasks

Step in as backup for other Tech Team leads when needed

Help organize and track technical tasks (using tools like Jira)

Assist in interviewing and onboarding new tech volunteers

Commit to 6 hours per week for at least 6 months

Qualifications

Some technical, programming, or scripting experience (e.g., APIs, automation, Google Apps Script/Javascript)

Ability to work independently and communicate clearly

Some familiarity with tools like Google Workspace, Slack, Jira, Salesforce or willingness to learn

Strong leadership/team building skills

Resourceful, can-do attitude

Previous leadership or mentoring experience is a plus
