Our client is seeking a contractor Azure Oracle Database Engineer to design, operate, and secure Azure Oracle database services. The engineer will implement strong identity and access practices, provide expert leadership with Oracle database backup, restore, and resiliency management, perform database maintenance tasks including patching and upgrade, and conduct monitoring and audit of database performance and capacity in Azure. The role emphasizes practical, scalable solutions that ensure secure, auditable operations, clear documentation, and effective collaboration with security, engineering, and operations teams.
This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. Rate: $90.00 to $98.00/hr. w2
Responsibilities
Design, operate, and secure Azure Oracle database services.
Provision, configure, and maintain Oracle database servers for versions 19c or 23ai.
Provision appropriate administrative roles and enforce least‑privilege access via role assignments and security groups.
Manage privileges using Oracle Database Vault for system database administrators and application support resources.
Leverage Guardium database monitoring when applicable.
Develop and maintain baseline configurations including encryption at rest, auditing, threat detection, backup and restore, retention, and access parameters.
Configure, maintain, and optimize Active Data Guard to minimize replication lag and maintain performance.
Implement Oracle GoldenGate for active/active schema or table level replication to improve resiliency.
Perform database restores in lower environments using RMAN or logical exports and imports.
Plan and document database patching, diagnostics, and repair activities, including remote maintenance records.
Implement secure media handling and sanitization practices for backups, exports, and logs.
Configure Azure‑native monitoring and logging for database identity, access, and operational events.
Tune alerts to service owners and security teams and support audit readiness for access and operational controls.
Experience Requirements
Proficiency with managed identities for applications and reduction of local key usage in favor of centralized identity.
Grounding in configuration baselines, resource tagging, and asset or data inventories in Azure.
Familiarity with Azure monitoring and logging for database events and integration with approval and incident workflows.
Demonstrated experience designing and operating secure Oracle database environments at scale.
Capability to govern elevated access, emergency access workflows, incident handling, and post‑event reviews.
Strong documentation and communication skills with coordination across engineering, security, and operations.
Practical approach to external service oversight and maintenance recordkeeping supporting audit readiness.
Nice to have: experience integrating identity and access workflows with enterprise approval systems and incident or ticketing processes.
Nice to have: exposure to data classification or discovery tooling and secure media handling for database backups and exports.
Nice to have: familiarity with CI/CD guardrails for secret management and application‑to‑database identity patterns.
