Backend QA Engineer – FIX Protocol (Trading Systems) – Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

Salary:
$120,000 – $140,000 base + discretionary annual bonus
Must-have: hands-on FIX protocol testing experience (FIX 4.2/4.4 order flow, execution reports, session/sequence handling, QuickFIX/J or similar).
E-Frontiers is partnering with a fast-growing, CFTC-regulated derivatives exchange and clearinghouse in Chicago to hire a Backend QA Specialist. You'll drive quality across the core Exchange, Clearing and Instrument management systems, extending the QA automation framework and building out comprehensive testing for high-performance trading infrastructure.
What you'll do
Extend and maintain a Java-based QA automation framework
Design and build manual and automated test cases for high-performance exchange and clearing platforms
Rigorously test all interfaces, including FIX protocol, proprietary binary formats and file formats
Test admin and customer-facing interfaces using Playwright and manual approaches, covering functionality, data integrity, security compliance and performance
Partner with Product and Engineering to define and enforce rigorous quality standards
Monitor and report on system performance, data integrity and compliance
What you'll bring
Essential: hands-on experience testing FIX protocol messaging (FIX 4.2/4.4) in a trading, exchange, broker or clearing environment
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
3+ years of QA / software testing experience, ideally in financial services
Strong proficiency in Java, Python, FIX and SQL
Hands-on experience with Cucumber, Playwright and JUnit
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Experience with derivatives or financial markets is a strong plus
