Join Engineered Comfort Solutions as a BAS Controls Installation and Service Technician

Location: Taylor, MI / Projects throughout Southeast Michigan

Job/Employment Type: Full Time

Schedule: Monday – Friday, On-call rotations, Overtime and weekends as needed

Project Scope: Commercial and Industrial HVAC / Building Automation Controls

Mandatory Licenses & Certifications: EPA HVAC Certification, Valid Driver's License

Job Overview

Keeping controls online is part of the role;

owning the continued improvement of system performance, sequence quality, documentation, and verified customer outcomes is the standard. ECS is looking for a BAS controls professional who sees the entire system - field devices, wiring, controllers, networks, sequences, HVAC operation, commissioning, and the customer's experience. You will install, integrate, troubleshoot, and improve the systems that keep complex commercial and industrial facilities operating.

Why ECS

For more than 30 years, Engineered Comfort Systems has supported complex commercial and industrial environments with mechanical systems, HVAC service, automation controls, responsive communication, and disciplined documentation. ECS is building its next stage of growth by adding people who want responsibility, development, and the chance to influence what comes next. Learn more at

What You Will Own

Install and service BAS controls for boiler plants, chiller plants, rooftop units, air-handling equipment, cooling towers, VAV systems, and related commercial/industrial HVAC equipment.

Install low-voltage control wiring, Ethernet and communication wiring, switches, routers, controllers, sensors, relays, transducers, actuators, and control panels.

Build and install customer control panels for HVAC control applications.

Support PC- and IP-based integration with building automation systems.

Configure, test, commission, and start up DDC control systems.

Troubleshoot new and existing control systems, HVAC operation, sequences, field devices, and communication networks.

Verify that the sequence works in the real building - not only that the controller is online.

Communicate findings, risks, status, and next steps clearly to customers, project teams, and ECS leadership.

What Winning Looks Like

Installations are clean, safe, organized, documented, and ready for commissioning.

You move methodically from symptom to root cause across mechanical, electrical, controls, and network layers.

Startups and service calls end with tested operation, clear documentation, and a customer who understands the outcome.

You close loops without being chased and ask for help before a risk becomes a failure.

The system, documentation, and customer understanding are stronger because you owned the full outcome.

You Will Thrive Here If

You are disciplined, consistent, and personally accountable for the full outcome.

You enjoy technical complexity and remain persistent when the answer crosses multiple systems.

You follow a process, document your work, and know when the data proves the system is operating correctly.

You communicate like a professional with customers and teammates.

You want continued development, certifications, larger systems, and increasing responsibility.

This will not fit: If 'the controller is online' is your finish line, or if you wait for others to close your communication and documentation loops, this is not your role.

Required Experience and Credentials

Minimum 3 years of hands-on commercial or industrial HVAC controls experience preferred.

Strong understanding of HVAC systems, sequencing, design, and operating applications.

Proven troubleshooting ability across HVAC systems and BAS controls.

Experience with Tridium Niagara and BACnet communication networks preferred.

Basic computer skills;

PC- and IP-based controls experience is a plus.

EPA HVAC certification and a valid driver's license.

Clean driving record and ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test.

Availability for after-hours work, overtime, weekends, and on-call rotation as required.

What ECS Provides

Hourly pay of $25.00-$55.00+, based on knowledge and experience.

Steady, year-round work on complex systems plus 100% employer-paid employee medical coverage, with dental and vision options.

401(k) with company match, paid time off, holidays, travel per diem, relocation assistance, and tuition reimbursement.

Continuous technical training, manufacturer certifications, OSHA, fall-protection, and lift training.

Company vehicle or mileage reimbursement;

uniforms, safety gear, smartphone, and tablet provided.

Performance-based opportunity to grow into broader technical, mentoring, lead, or field-leadership responsibility as roles become available.

Schedule and Location

Full-time, Monday through Friday, with on-site installation and service work throughout Southeast Michigan.

On-call rotation, overtime, and weekends as needed.

Southeast Florida project travel or relocation opportunities may be available based on business needs and mutual fit.

How to Apply

Submit your resume and a short response to this question: Describe one BAS problem involving sequence, network communication, integration, or field devices. How did you find the root cause, verify operation, and document the result?

We are looking for technical thinking, ownership, and proof that you verify the outcome.

Equal Opportunity

Engineered Comfort Systems is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to any status protected by applicable law.
