Base CustodianThe Richfield Public School District is now accepting applications for a full-time Districtwide Base Custodian. This role will perform a variety of daily cleaning, minor inside maintenance and routine outside grounds maintenance as scheduled or assigned in a timely, courteous manner that helps maintain a clean, safe environment for students, staff and visitors. The Base Custodian provides support across multiple Facilities functions, including custodial, building maintenance, grounds, boiler/heating systems, and transportation responsibilities as assigned. The position provides opportunities to develop broader Facilities knowledge and skills through cross-training and hands-on experience, supporting a career-development pathway toward higher-classified Facilities positions as opportunities become available. This position will operate a school bus as scheduled or assigned and safely pick up, transport and drop off authorized riders from designated points to authorized stops or designated destinations. The position provides opportunities to develop broader Facilities knowledge and skills through cross-training and hands-on experience, supporting a career-development pathway toward higher-classified Facilities positions as opportunities become available.To operate a school bus as scheduled or assigned and safely pick up, transport and drop off authorized riders from designated points to authorized stops or designated destinations.Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelops and maintains current knowledge of District policies, protocols, procedures, and safety practices applicable to the position and performs assigned responsibilities purposefully, confidently, and independently within established authority.Performs assigned custodial duties independently and responsibly, including cleaning, sanitation, building care, room and area preparation, waste removal, and other activities necessary to maintain clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly facilities for students, staff, and visitors.Operates, cleans, and performs routine care of custodial equipment, tools, and supplies and follows established procedures for the safe use, storage, and handling of cleaning products and equipment.Develops and progressively applies building maintenance and repair skills through on-the-job training, instruction, and experience. Performs routine maintenance, minor repairs, inspections, and facility support activities within the scope of training and assigned responsibilities and seeks assistance when work requires specialized knowledge, equipment, or authorization.Performs assigned grounds and exterior maintenance duties, including mowing, snow and ice removal, seasonal upkeep, and other activities necessary to maintain District sites in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.As directed and within the scope of training and authorization, assists with routine boiler and heating system monitoring, inspections, and related facility responsibilities and promptly reports conditions requiring attention.Serves as a substitute school bus driver on an as-needed basis, completing assigned routes and transporting authorized riders in accordance with District policies, applicable laws, regulations, and safety requirements.Performs required pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintains the assigned bus in a safe and clean condition, and promptly reports vehicle, safety, or maintenance concerns.Maintains appropriate rider conduct, completes required transportation records, and promptly reports accidents, incidents, or other transportation concerns in accordance with District procedures.Completes work orders, electronic data entry, inspection records, transportation records, and other required documentation accurately and within established timelines.Organizes and prioritizes assigned responsibilities in consultation with the supervisor, communicates changes or barriers affecting completion of work, and seeks clarification when priorities, procedures, or assignments are unclear.Develops and maintains collaborative and professional working relationships with students, staff, supervisors, contractors, and others that contribute to a safe, pleasant, and productive workplace.Participates in required training and maintains required licenses, certifications, endorsements, and qualifications, including those necessary for assigned transportation and facilities responsibilities.Performs other job-related responsibilities as assigned.KnowledgeKnowledge of custodial practices, including cleaning, sanitation, building care, and the safe and proper use of custodial products, tools, and equipment.Basic and developing knowledge of general building maintenance, repair, and facility operations, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, heating, and other building systems.Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance and the safe operation and routine care of maintenance, grounds, custodial, and related equipment.Knowledge of applicable District policies, procedures, safety practices, and regulatory requirements related to custodial, maintenance, grounds, and facility operations.Basic knowledge of recordkeeping, work documentation, inspections, and reporting requirements, with the ability to learn and progressively apply maintenance procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and specialized skills through on-the-job training and instruction.SkillsSkill in independently performing custodial duties, including cleaning, sanitation, building care, and the safe and effective use of custodial products, tools, and equipment.Developing skill in performing routine building maintenance, repairs, inspections, and facility support activities, with the ability to learn and apply appropriate methods, tools, and procedures under direction.Developing skill in operating and maintaining grounds, maintenance, and other facility equipment and in recognizing conditions requiring additional attention or specialized repair.Skill in identifying and communicating maintenance, safety, building, grounds, and facility concerns to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance direction.AbilitiesAbility to independently perform assigned custodial responsibilities and maintain a clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors.Ability to learn and progressively perform routine building maintenance, repairs, inspections, grounds, and facility support duties under the direction of experienced maintenance staff or a supervisor.Ability to safely operate, inspect, and perform routine care of custodial, grounds, maintenance, and other facility equipment and to recognize conditions requiring additional attention or specialized assistance.Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, District policies and procedures, safety requirements, and applicable laws and regulations, and to seek guidance when responsibilities exceed current training or experience.Ability to organize and prioritize assigned work, respond appropriately to changing needs, and work independently within established responsibilities while recognizing when direction or assistance is needed.Ability to accurately complete work orders, records, reports, inspections, and other required documentation.Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive, professional working relationships with students, staff, supervisors, contractors, and others.Ability to successfully complete required on-the-job functions of the position with the physical strength, stamina, mobility, and capacity necessary to safely perform assigned duties.Education/Certification RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent.Valid Minnesota driver's license with a driving record that meets or exceeds District standards.Valid Minnesota Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the appropriate school bus and passenger endorsements, or the ability to obtain and maintain the required CDL and endorsements within the timeframe established by the District.Valid Special Engineer Boiler License appropriate to
