EMT Basic Skills Laboratory AssistantThe EMT Basic Skills Laboratory Assistant supports hands-on clinical and scenario-based EMT Basic labs in alignment with NREMT and NHTSA standards. This role helps develop competent, compassionate, entry-level EMT-Basics by ensuring clinical realism, lab safety, and achievement of program outcomes.Primary ResponsibilitiesOversee and lead assigned demonstrations to students during EMT basic skills labs under lead instructor guidance.Communicate learning outcomes for each skill session.Motivate students with a professional, responsive, and cordial attitude to perform at their highest level.Provide real-time coaching, feedback, and mentorship in skill performance.Maintaining an atmosphere of dignity and propriety conducive to learning in the classroom.Assist in setup, breakdown, and inventory of simulation labs- ensuring readiness and cleanliness.Reinforce professional behavior, clinical standards, and safety protocols.Promote a positive learning environment aligned with Tyler Junior College values.Competencies Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesProficiency in EMT Basic clinical skills, including but not limited to: CPR, AED, oxygen administration, BVM, airway adjuncts, splinting, bleeding control, basic pharmacologyStrong interpersonal and communication skills for diverse learnersCommitment to educational excellence and student successProfessionalism, reliability, and adherence to academic policyAbility to provide constructive feedback, encouraging student growthFamiliarity with EMS simulation equipment is a plusSupervisory Responsibilities Individual ContributorWork Environment: The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to machinery noise and regular duties required outside of standard business hours.Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, standing, typing, pushing, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lbsTravel Required: NoIf travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving recordWho You AreRequired Education Certificate of completion as an Emergency Medical TechnicianRequired Experience Minimum 6 months of current, active field experience as EMT-BRequired Credentials/Licensures Certificate of proficiency from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician – BasicPreferred Credentials/Licensures NREMT EMT-BPreferred Experience 1+ years of field experience as NREMT-BAdditional Job-Specific Requirements Must be willing to work flexible hours (may include some evening hours)ExpectationsServe as a professional role model to aspiring paramedicsWill have contact – in person, by email, or by phone – with staff, students, and the general public.Exhibit cultural competence and sensitivity to student diversityMaintain punctuality and regular attendanceUnderstand that job responsibilities may evolve based on program needsNote: With or without reasonable accommodation, the individual in this position must possess the competencies and must be able to perform the essential functions and duties of the job as described above, including essential tasks requiring specific physical demands.This is a security-sensitive position.
