The YMCA of Greater New York is here for all New Yorkers—to empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community. Founded in 1852, today the Y serves a diverse population of more than half a million New Yorkers who learn, grow, and thrive through programs and services at its 24 branches. Community is the cornerstone of the Y, and through our talented staff and the “LEAP” career framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal Growth) we foster a people‑first culture that supports trust, inclusion, growth, and development for all.

The Staten Island South Shore YMCA is seeking a Beacon Director who, under the direct supervision of the Youth & Family Director, will manage the Beacon program at I.S. 49 (Berta A. Dreyfus School). The Director will oversee overall development, administration, supervision, and evaluation of the program while maintaining high quality and raising additional funds to expand the program to meet community needs.

Plan and create new and innovative Youth & Family Programs that align with branch priorities and the strategic plan.

Work collaboratively with branch staff to develop new programs.

Develop and grow community partnerships and establish a resource referral system for youth and families.

Recruit, select, develop, train, and supervise staff.

Represent the Branch at necessary program cabinets (e.g., YAS and Teen Cabinets).

Maintain and continue to improve the quality of all Youth & Family Programs.

Become a certified trainer in at least one youth area and lead training events.

Actively participate in all training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.

Desired Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a related field (MSW preferred).

Certification to supervise MSW interns preferred.

1–2 years of experience supervising community‑based youth programs and developing prevention programs.

3–4 years of experience supervising multiple sites or a large center preferred.

Experience with case management and youth counseling in a mental‑health setting.

Knowledge of developing and administering youth programs, supervision, contract management, and grant writing.

Knowledge of budgeting and public policies.

Child Abuse Prevention, CPR/First Aid, and RTE trainer certificates/credentials preferred.

Experience working with age groups K through Adult preferred.

Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
