Job description
14 children in foster care in Lackawanna County are currently waiting for someone to stand beside them. Could that someone be you?
A child involved in the child welfare system is facing one of the most difficult and uncertain times of their life. They may be moving between homes, meeting new adults, changing schools, and trying to understand decisions being made about their future.
They need someone who will show up .
Someone who will listen. Someone who will be consistent. Someone who will make sure their voice is heard.
That's where a CASA advocate comes in.
What Does a CASA Advocate Do?
A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a trained community volunteer who gets to know a child and advocates for their safety, well-being, and best interests.
You will work alongside the child's team; including caseworkers, the Guardian ad Litem, foster care professionals, teachers, doctors, and other important adults to help make sure the child's needs aren't overlooked. You don't have to be a lawyer, social worker, or child welfare expert. You just need to care, be willing to learn, and be someone who will keep showing up.
A Few Hours Can Make a Lifetime of Difference
If you've ever wondered how you can make a meaningful difference in the life of a child, this is your opportunity. Being a CASA advocate requires a commitment of time, but you don't have to give up your life to change a child's life.
Training will be provided!
